fable proved that's not automatically the case. I never identified myself with this mute childish douchbag I played. Would be great though.

Ah, now maybe you didn't 'identify' wit them, but from that single sentence I can already tell the sort of decisions you made and how they would affect him later in his life...

Considering that Fable came out 9 years ago this month, I think it did a stand up job at the time.

I'd like to have the ability to choose my character's own personal backstory (similar to Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect and Mount & Blade), so that there would be many possibilities for how players react to the world (ideologically speaking) and vice-versa. I'd also would love the ability to choose their political and religious preferences (it of course wouldn't be shoved all in the players or NPCs faces throughout the game, but there would be subtle moments in cutscenes or random dialogue that expresses how they feel about a certain topic), Leftist (Liberalism, Communism, etc), Far-Leftist (Anarchism, Radical-Communism, etc), Rightist (Conservatism, Nationalism, etc), Far-Rightest (Hardcore-Conservatism, Ultra-nationalism, etc), Christianity, Catholicism, Shintoism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Islam, Deism, Agnosticism, Atheism, etc.

And don't just let us play with different Roles and let players feel as though it was somehow the same as the last one they toyed with, let each one feel unique to us (let Nomads rise from the gutter, Corporates being part of a huge Corporations, etc). Or heck, let us even choose our own personal backstories with each role, just like Dragon Age Origins (just so we'd have a fresh new experience almost everytime we play).

That's how I'd want it anyways, just so we can all truly have our own unique characters (some born rich, while others poor, some religious, while other more secular, etc). Though I will also add that some political views shouldn't be made available to Corporates (it wouldn't make much sense for a Radical-Communist or a Anarchist to be what they deeply hate, logically speaking).

Yeah, I felt sorta bad at the end of Dragon Age 2 when my mage PC killed her lover Anders because he went TO DAMN FAR blowing up the Chantry and all the innocent people in it. Now if he'd have blown up the Templar headquarters I'd have cheered him on.

I hope they make it like Dragon's Dogma. You could set a LOT of appearence options in that one, including how girly or manly your character moves.

I really like primephreak's idea for the introduction into character creation, but I also agree with TheOracle7 about having each class have unique introductions into the game. Some variation or combination of the two would be ideal. It's not a make or break feature, but when a game ties everything into gameplay, it really makes me appreciate it that much more. I'm not a big fan of just having the character creation tossed at me. Ease me into the mind of my character like I'm slipping into a brain dance.

Some specifics...
- No "character personality" choices, or anything resembling it. They feel gimmicky. My choices should define my character personality, not some arbitrary word or phrase.
- Similarly, please omit "character backgrounds" and "quirks"/preferences unless it directly influences gameplay. Otherwise it's just a waste of time. Deciding what religion or political ideology you side with or what your favorite body wash is should be done at the relevant and corresponding points in the game. Not character creation. Also, don't force me into a fixed narrative when we inevitably make these choices. Make consequences for flip-flopping on your ideals, but let me do it if I want to! Characters can change!
- Only the absolute necessary amount of text. Keep it very minimal (it's fine to throw in a few jokes or snippets here or there, but don't make it unnecessarily wordy). I'm already going to spend 10 hours deciding what style of hair my character is going to have. Don't give me any more reasons to stay on the character creation screen please.

Opening menu scene: Night time, Raining, View is hovering over an empty but lit street with a few people walking up and down and a cop car parked in front of a police office.
Options: New, Load, Options. (each selection with take you to a building in the street via fly camera and offer a new menu)

<select new game> : view flies down to the police office and focuses on a deputies holo screen with one question "Sex?" the two options being Male or Female.
Once that question is answered a randomly created person of the sex designated walks in front of a mugshot camera (full body can bee seen on screen)
Next questions on the holo screen offer up basic character customization, and basic cyber options (more advanced options are either illegal or too expensive for a starter character) as you change options the person standing morphs and changes. When you accept the changes the person gets their mug shot taken and is told to sit down in front of the Cop.

Then you go through a dialog tree answering questions from the cop to determine your history and background,(friends enemies, big wins, big losses, from the PnP game) While also setting Stat values.

Once done you can review all the collected info. If you choose to reject the character he is hauled off to jail (with a small percentage of returning in game as a side boss) and the "Sex" question restarts the cycle.

If you choose to keep the character you are told you where arrested for being in the area during a lock down and are now being released and may be contacted again later for questioning.

Why aren't you a Developer?! This is amazingly awesome! I truly now hope character creation is like this now.

Lets also let normal people and augmented people to hate each other.

Normal hate because well they're normal and some augmented citizens will think changing your body from flesh to metal is the next step in evolution.

Augmented hate because of the extreme changes people will go through to become different and lets not forget the psychos.:D

Kind of the wrong thread - I'll m,ove it if it goes on.

In Cyberpunk, nearly everyone is augmented. It's very very common and socially acceptable. This isn't Deus Ex.
