I never really changed my opinion on no companions. They are up there with fourth or fifth tier stuff for the game: could be fun, very far from a priority. And that's only if done right, which no video game has done for me so far.
Character romance is a higher priority, just because although I don't feel it's a big part of Cyberpunk, ( it receives very little address in any of the rulebooks. there are no discussions of domesticity outside the initial Lifepath generation, there is no issue with...potential "issue" and there is nothing really in terms of "how do you date" or "marriage in the 21st century" or, "Falling in love: the Cyberpunk Way"), but a well-written romance with an NPC is a good high-water mark for writing and a worthy goal. Note: That's with an NPC, not a follow-you-loyally companion.
