I think this is always the case actually. The devs recommend it.

When I get a new PC, I'm seriously gonna spend like $300 on a graphics card alone. I'm not messing around. I hate lowering the res for such a beautiful game.

I'd trade a GF460 for one of your kidneys. A lung would be fine, too. :p

Seriously though. It will probably become a lot cheaper in the next one or two months, Nvidia should be launching a new series of graphics cards quite soon. :)

I personally run a single GTX 560 Ti on 1680 X 1050 on a 23 inch lcd monitor and with everything on ultra and ubersampling on i get between 18 - 25 FPS with uber off about 35 , with a few more eyecandies turned off like motion blur , blur effects , and SSAO 50-60 FPS .
With everything disabled except for Ultra shadows and light shafts 60+

I hope so. Being a poor college student with a negative net value, I probably shouldn't have bought the game in the first place. :p

Heh, I hear ya. I'm in the same boat. :p
TW2 was worth every painfully saved cent, though. ;)

I wouldn`t suggest selling a kidney or anything like that but plasma is a different story .

I'm honestly unsure of that at the moment. I'm pretty niffed about this. But I'm trying not to let it color my opinion of the game itself.

If you got lag problems, during dialogs, or in the inventory, or anywhere, disable the "Cinematic depth of field", and if you are on nvidia put "maximum pre-rendered frames" at 0. It worked for me, now it runs really smooth.

You may not have a choice. I have an ATI 4670, and quad core processor. I literally have to lower the res into the 800-1050's for no lag. Then I bump up all the eye candy and the game looks still looks good. You'll have to lower the res for better performance imo.

Despite what the devs said at release, this game isn't made for mid range rigs. I can run any other modern game I own at higher res than TW2.

True! I have Q6600 (Quad Core @ 2,4GHz), 4GB and Sapphire Radeon 4870(1GB) and the recommendation from the built in auto-settings is high at 1240x1024 (highest possible res on my monitors) but I get only about 20 fps in tutorial ---> set textures and shadows to middle, texturefactor set to slight reduction, mesh-distancescaling to narrow and deactivated most of the suggested settings such as AA, SSAO, rain, blur, distortion ----> 40-43 fps in tutorial.

Conclusion: Automated-graphics-settings sucks...or...wait! is that a NVIDIA logo at the start?! Damn! I've been screwed! Since recommended specs are "Intel Quad-Core, 4GB, Radeon 4850(1GB)

That logo only means bucks :)

Agree, even with a GTX 460 the game still keeps putting the settings on the minimum, while I can smoothly play it on higher.

The ability to push pixels seems to be the key for this game. That accounts for the common observation that for many cards, changing the setting but not the resolution does little to improve the frame rate. The stated minimum cards (8800 GT 512, HD 3850) are in the neighborhood of 10 Gpix/sec, and that's enough for medium at reduced resolution, high if you're tolerant of lower frame rate.

High or Ultra at high resolution (1680 or 1920 horizontal) wants considerably more than that. It puts you in the range of elite GPUs: in AMD, the 5850, 6850, and up; in nVidia, the GTX 260, 460, 550 Ti, and up.

There are some cards that can give intermediate performance, substantially better than the minimum cards, but not up to the top level: the nVidia GT 545; the AMD 4870, 5770, and 6770. These may do well at 1680 but not at 1920.

But many entry-level nVidia and AMD cards: the nVidia GT 240, 430, 530; the AMD 46xx, 56xx, and 66xx are actually below minimum spec and need reduced resolution and settings, or even windowed mode, to make acceptable performance.
