Here's a trick (from animation): flip the image. If you flip it you'll see all the things that are wrong or weird. There you can change them, modify, edit, re-draw... whatever it's needed. Then re-flip the image in the original position and you'll see the result :peace:

Huh, never really consciously thought of that, though I feel like I have done that before once or twice. Gonna have to use that more often here.

As for you question, that's my suggestion: eyebrows color should never been the same of hair or lighter. Normally, you make it darker. For mainly two reasons:
-it's an optical effect helping to "frame" the eyes even more and make them look brighter

-in real world, people eyebrows are darker than the hair. Those people having eyebrows as blond\white as the hair, have a weird look, like they don't have eyebrows at all.
How dark you can make that color is your own choice.

^This. Absolutely this. The exception I've seen to this are redheads. They can either have brown eyebrows or they can have almost blonde ones (and they usually darken them with makeup). @Валькирия Your Ciri looks great as she is. You could lighten them a little, but my recommendation would be to definitely don't go any lighter than the same shade of her hair.

Especially when dealing with foreshortening. F'ing pain in the ass.

Fwiw, I do like the edit version that @secondchildren did. However, that could just come down to a preference of style. I still get the vibe of those old Japanese woodblock prints which certainly is not a bad thing.

I do that whenever I feel something is off.

It's a technique I picked up from drawing manga, although I have to say that
it's less useful with realistic art where you have fewer clear lines.

In other news I'm between working on my project or drawing a Ciri fanart.
It's a tough decision to make~

@Валькирия

Manga, eh? I'm going to have some things to ping you about shortly. ;)

And there is a choice to make for you? You know it's all about the Ciri!

Whenever I stand in front of my easel, I'm still ensuring to have a mirror behind me .... If not, I carry one with my paints...

I prefer the first picture better. I think it has something to do with the jawline, but as I am an ignorant primitive, I can't pinpoint it exactly.

Now something extra. What about the spacing of the eyes? I think it is just a little too narrow. Maybe I'm wrong. What do you guys think?

The piece is awesome, I can't wait to see the finished version.

First as in the one I labeled '1' or the first in the series of pictures? I'm sorry, I don't know why I keep labeling things backwards. @.@; My bad!

Also, my spouse pointed out the eyes after I had already posted, and I agree with you both all! Thanks, hopefully I don't take too long to complete something worth while!

Move the left eye a bit to the left, the right one a bit to the right and you should be all set.

Don't worry, it's a lot of tweaking work but you're getting there !

Thank you!! That actually seems to help me quite a lot! You know, I've been trying to use another layer to display that t-shape when I want it and just hide the layer when I don't... But I've been using the same black lines when I do use the shape... The red sticks out more, I think I'm going to start using that instead.

Seeing the face flipped does somehow draw more of my attention to what still needs work, I will definitely be keeping that in mind, too!

Yeah, I'm beginning to think I may play around with this one more. I think the eyes/nose/mouth being adjusted to fit this jawline more could look good... We shall see....

You people make me very happy!

Nah sorry my bad. "First" was the wrong word. I prefer version "number 1". Since the jawline is a little more round. I don't even know why that is a good thing, it's just more pleasing in the eye for me I guess.

That being said, if I keep looking at all of them for a while, I might change my mind. That's what happens when you have no idea what you're talking about. :p

Yeah, something about #1 feels a little more... I don't know, natural? The jaw/cheek looks a little fat but the way the eyes/nose/mouth fit into it, the angle of the whole face, maybe, looks understandable.... Maybe. x)
I feel like if I fixed that cheek line maybe #1 wouldn't be so bad, but the following pics were my attempt at that, and somehow still seems off, lol.

I think I can best you in the "I don't know what I'm talking about" department, heehee!

Thanks, I will keep things posting. I've been neglecting various chores to spend my sluggish time dabbling with it. If only I weren't so slow! I see some artists able to dish out amazing, colored pieces like it's child's play! Perhaps one day, far from now I will have that ability.

@EmperorZorn - it's a practice comic based on the books. still deciding on which stories-- likely the Sword of Destiny or one of the hardcore chapters in Tower of the Swallow :)

I really like the idea of a comic and the color scheme you've chosen is very stylish ~*

Start out by selecting a story, draw a storyboard (with stick figures or something simple)
and once you've figured out what you want to show, you can put it into frames.

But most of all: have fun drawing !

@BirdTheBard

Oh, we're not turning you into a Ciri fan - you've always been one, you just began to realize it.
Come to the dark side ! We have coffee~*

@EmperorZorn - ahaha I know how to draw a comic c: But thanks for the tips~ good to know how helpful Ciri fans are to newbies! Especially having fun as the priority n_n Also! You still haven't posted that image of Ciri from when I last posted on here! You posted a headshot and that was all ;~; pls update
@Lyfia - WALL OF TEXT INCOMING:
I highly recommend an undersketch, using that to calculate what you've done in proportion to the rest of the image. I couldn't work out precisely what you wanted from the face-- all those different face-types you posted a page or two back are correct depending on what angle Ciri's face is on, in my opinon. What bothered me as an anatomy nerd is those hips and those hands! I am also aware that your drawing style seems to be less realistic than mine, but I encourage you to take what you will of what I draw and I hope it helps you in some way. n_n
NOTES mentioned in the image:
> If the ears are above the eye line, the character is being seen from above (or is looking down!). As such, if the ears are below the eye level, the character is looking up. If those can't be seen, generally it's easy to guess, but sometimes looking at the nose helps. Eye sockets also are a good indicator and I tend to use them a lot in my sketches :)
> The hands do not match the same sword. I think I didn't do a great job on the arm-- it should be going a bit further back into the distance a bit. Try and warp your own arm into that position (which is not a weird position, it's just hard to visualise!) and you'll see what I mean. The elbow comes much further up than I have drawn here-- perhaps to her eye level.
> The hip, I have concluded either ought to be moved or foreshortened so that perhaps she is squatting and we are above her? This is up to you! I recommend working out what stance she is in before cutting off her legs, aha.
I don't know if my ramblings in the image make sense to you ._. But I really like your line work, the variation in thickness is good (so much better than my skinny lines ._. ). The overall rendition is very beautifully crafted and I thoroughly look forward to the final product! The hands and body and general forms are really well drawn, they've just got some underlying confusion. I hope I've helped in some way for future pieces, but IMO you should colour and finish the piece as you see fit because it's beautiful and just take what you want from my ramblings and scribbles for future works and only do that if you want to.

On that topic from ages ago - I was under the impression that the sword she had in the Sword of Destiny trailer was Swallow. I'm interested to see-- if it isn't Swallow, what kind of sword must this new one be to replace such a fine blade? ~so much excite~

And for ships, I ship the hatred between Leo Bonhart and Cirilla of Cintra because that was wonderfully crafted. It's a beautiful thing. That was actually a terrible comic, I apologise for everything. There's a reason why the word 'ship' comes from the word 'relationship' and relationships aren't necessarily romantic or sexual or friendly in anyway :) Relationships are unique between every individual. I ship Geralt and Ciri's parent-child thing like you would not believe.
