Collectors Edition - PC - CAN not install

Hi,

I tried to install game from my collectors edition and it failed.

First,

autorun is not working because there is wrong file name in it: open=setup_the_witcher3_wild_hunt.exe, where on DVD is SETUP_TH.EXE file. This can be easily workaround I just started SETUP_TH.EXE.

Second,

after I accepted licence agreement and chose Install aftre few second I got screen looking for a file named: SETUP_TH-1.bin. That file can not be found on any DVDs (1-4). On my DVD-1 there are only SETUP_TH.BIN and SETUP_T2.BIN files. When I try to choose either of files installer says:
"Installation can not be continued because of missing file. Do you want to to cancel? Yes/No?"

CD Projekt RED what the hell?

Regards,

I know this is pretty basic troubleshooting but, have you tried uninstalling/removing all W3 files, rebooting the PC and trying it again? Must be so frustrating. I hope you can get it to work soon.

There is no uninstall yet, and there is only folder F:\GOG Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt and webcache.zip file in it. Never the less I removed all files and even found one location i n registry with "hunt" in it and removed it too. Restarted PC and the efect is this same :(

I'm trying to install from the CE discs and I got an error too, but slightly different. It said error 10 I think and could not read game file, check if I have enough hard drive space. I have 2 terabytes free on this drive.

Trying again...

Also having this issue. Apart form moving all the bin files from the discs and renaming them to what the installer wants I don't know how to fix it.

---------- Updated at 02:17 AM ----------

Managed to install via the method I mentinoed above, but now it is "waiting for release" on GOG Galaxy software

---------- Updated at 02:29 AM ----------

OK, I can confirm that copying the .bin files from the disks and then rename them to what the installer asks works. Time to play this sucker

If you've got the collector's edition for PC, disc 4 is in the same box as soundtrack disc.

turns out the person putting the discs in the case left a pretty nice smudge on the one that failed me haha. gave it a quick wipe and installed again, worked.

first time i tried to run it though it crashed as soon as i clicked on 'play'. i did get a message that gog galaxy needed to update and i didn't do the 'connect' option. exited everything, installed some windows updates, updated galaxy and tried again and it worked.

hope you get it sorted! :)

Same here, exactly like OP, collectors edition (from Australia) it asks for bin 1 straight away and after putting all four discs in, ALL the discs have the same files. Thankfully I was able to redeem my code through GoG but now I have to wait for 26GB to download. Hopefully I MIGHT get to play tonight :(

Same issue as OP here.

Currently copying .bin files to folders on my HDD, and will attempt renaming them as required by the installer.

Not impressed at all...

Would be nice to get some official GoG or CDPR word on this.

that's what disc 4 looks like in my pc, it might help with the correct names if you can't see them. do you actually have all the files on all the discs, just with different names?

Sorry to ask, but which file has to be renamed? The _TH or the -2?

---------- Updated at 10:39 AM ----------

Nope, I actually have on every disk but 1 the following:
SETUP_TH.bin
SETUP_T2.bin

They're all the same!
Disc one has:
Auto run. Ico
Autorun
Setup_T2.bin
Setup_TH.bin
SETUP_TH.exe

So, even if I copy all the disks on HHD, which files are to be renamed? I mean, all the .bin? I randomly chose them?

OK, so here's what I did. This worked for me.

Explanation: It seems someone screwed up so the expected filenames are not found on the DVD's. The steps below will instruct you to copy the files from the DVD's onto your HDD, rename the files, then run the installer.

Step 1:
Create a folder on your HDD called Witcher 3 (or whatever you want to call it - this will be a temporary store for files you will later delete)

NOTE: You will need approx 27GB HDD space free for the copied files PLUS approx 25+GB for the install

Step 2:
Inside the Witcher 3 folder you created, create another folder called Disc 1
Copy all the files from the physical Disc 1 into this folder

Step 3:
Inside the Witcher 3 folder you created, create another folder called Disc 2
Copy all the files from the physical Disc 2 into this folder
Repeat the above step to create folders called Disc 3 and Disc 4 and copy the files from each disc

Step 4:
Go into Disc 1 folder
Rename the files as follows:
Setup_TH.bin change to Setup_TH-1.bin
Setup_T2.bin change to Setup_TH-2.bin
You do NOT need to rename Setup_TH.exe

Step 5:
Go into folder Disc 2
Rename the files as follows:
Setup_TH.bin change to Setup_TH-3.bin
Setup_T2.bin change to Setup_TH-4.bin

Step 6:
Go into folder Disc 3
Rename the files as follows:
Setup_TH.bin change to Setup_TH-5.bin
Setup_T2.bin change to Setup_TH-6.bin

Step 7:
Go into the folder Disc 4
Rename the file as follows:
Setup_TH.bin change to Setup_TH-7.bin
NOTE: There is no Setup_T2.bin on Disc 4

Step 8:
Go into the folder Disc 1
Double click the file Setup_TH.exe
Choose install location if necessary

Step 9:
Whenever the installer asks for one of the files you renamed, navigate to the appropriate folder (Disc 1, 2, 3 or 4) and choose the file. Click Open

Step 10:
Once the install is complete you will be prompted to launch GoG Galaxy so that the Day 1 patch can be downloaded / installed. You can also redeem your GoG code for the game once logged in (found on the back of the Game Manual)

Step 11 (optional)
Curse the names CD Projekt Red, GoG and BandaiNamco for screwing up ;)

Step 12:
If everything is working as intended you may want to delete the folders you created to save disc space.

Note: I have no affiliation with CDPR, GoG or BandaiNamco, so follow the above at your own risk. It worked for me.

Okay. I've got other problem. I installed a game without any problem with name of file etc.. BUT after instalation it's required to download patch (WTF, in day of releasing the game I have to download a patch?). It's downloading, downloading, coming up to 25% and... WHAT? DOWNLOADING FAILED. With my Ethernet everything is OK. Situation repeated a billion times. Coming up to 25% and DOWNLOADING FAILED

Am I the only one with problem of this kind? How can I solve that problem?
PLEASE HELP

Not sure I can be of much help as the Day 1 patch worked fine for me from within GoG Galaxy.

However, I do recall seeing a link (with very small text) in the GoG Galaxy client -> Witcher 3 page somewhere. It stated something like Manual Download of Patch 1.01. It may be easier to do it that way if you can find the link!

Perhaps have a look under the 'More' button, and 'Get Backup and Extras'

Can't install as well on PC - crashes on disk 3 - see attached. Tried multiple times, tried copying the file setup_the_witcher3_
wild_hunt-3.bin but it also fails...

Can't play... issued support ticket already.

Thank you all for replay's.

I tried to use workaround with files being copied to HDD first and then install, but unfortunately I cannot copy Setup_TH.bin file from DVD-2 at 99%. I tried to copy file on two PC's with this same result, I also clean a little bit DVD but it didn't help. I will issue support ticket with that.

UPDATE: strangely before I took my discs back to EB games for an exchange, I took them to work to try on that PC and they work. So for whatever reason they just dont work on my computer. Very strange.

I have the same problem. I installed it successfully, then went back to download the newest patch and DLC, switched the download from my SDD to HDD and then the game appeared in gog as not installed. Tried to reinstall, but now it's stuck at one particular point in the install....
