First off a lot of times if you're using the wrong style he doesn't 'do' very much.

hammer + nailhead = BANG! 8)Yup, I tried again, on easy this time. It was OK until I faced an axe-dude. Then G would hit once, the cursor went purple, and he'd do nothing at all, no matter how long I waited. So I changed to X (strong) for fighting armoured enemies (ignoring the fact that these guys are barefoot, and naked bar a breechcloth and hood) and the flaming sword thing worked.Secondly, a bit later, after the fight with this group, group style was introduced via a gametip, and the gryphon icon appeared. It wasn't there before, so it appears that even though you are fighting a group to open the gate, group style is not available yet, so you hafta target each opponent individually and use either "strong" or "fast".And yeah, strong style does not work against lightly armoured opponents. This doesn't make much sense to me - I'd expect that while this style may connect less often with a nimble opponent, when it did connect it should do massive damage. So now I know what I was doing wrong. Reading the manual first was a mistake. So was thinking logically, instead of learning to work within the idiosyncrasies of the combat mechanics. Illogical as they may be, that's waht they are, so, *shrug* .Only prob now is that on easy, there's no challenge. And I'm watching the cursor instead of watching my opponent, so it's not very tactical. Still, I can live with that, I guess, as so many other aspects of the game are glacially cool!. I'll try starting again on medium.Yeah, perhaps as I gain levels/talents, the style descriptions may begin to make more sense, ie 2nd attack not available until earned.Tlazolteotl - yup, OTS, and yup, moving around did seem to "reset" things, until I clicked on the wrong opponent for the style I was in, of course, *slaps forehead*.And I can save now too ;D - maybe you can't save during the prologue/tutorial?Anyway, Geralt is now on his way - TVM for your help, witchers.I dunno how much diff the 1.2 patch makes, but I'm not noticing any lag or long loads/saves (like the reviews complained about). And my rig is no Cray.

Can't save in combat, that's all. :pAnd strong -does- work vs. everything .. in my favourite playthrough, I never put any points in fast styles above bronze, and rely on pumping my 'to hit' percentage really high, and do the whole "swing/miss, swing/miss, swing/kapow!"It's quite neat .. and if I really need to, I'll inflict my foes with pain to further reduce their defenses.

Yeah, you're right. Once an enemy is onto me, even running away as fast as I can counts as "in combat" :)I restarted on Medium. Love the game. For all its faults (and let's face it - what game doesn't have faults?) it's very enjoyable, and the plotline is complex and captivating.I can see that this is one of those very rare games that I'll want to play again.I think the voice acting is pretty good. There's been (so far) a somewhat unlikely mix of English and American accents, but I just have to use a little imagination to make it believable. STALKER was excellent in the accent department. As for the reviewers criticising the "cheesy voices" in Witcher, they obviously never played Two Worlds, ;)I think my only regret will be that I didn't save this game for DX10, an 8800GTX, and a widescreeen, but I can't stop now, I'm hooked.

Not sure what difficulty level you're playing on, but I found "hard" a bit more challenging than the other two levels. For those folks who feel like they have it all down, I'd suggest playing with just the plain silver sword in Act II and the original steel sword you get in Act I. From there, go no further than Bronze level in any of the skills/attributes and see if that doesn't help make the game a bit tougher. Lots of ways to stiffen up the game if you like a challenge. Experiment a bit til you find the level, the lack of equipment (nothing says you have to use all the great gear or weps) and don't invest all your points. I'm thinking somewhere in all that mix, just about anyone can find the right challenge. ;D

This game on hard is most games normal diffeculty and the Medium is really easy and the Easy is the Very easy mode. There is no Hard our Very hard to this game. Just play it for the story cus there is very little challenge here.

And I'm Polish, so English isn't the native language of either of us. I don't want to be mean or something. I just think that the forums will become a much nicer place if everyone spends a moment or two before posting to check their spelling.

If I'm doing something wrong, please tell me....My experience with the level four sword styles is that they are totally lame except that they open up other sword powers. I'm playing in hard mode, and have never played anything else except in the demo; I've found that the level four styles are pretty much unusable except against the very slowest creatures. Against anything else, I get hit before I can launch the attack and that breaks my charging the attack. If I'm right, this is definitely something to fix in the Enhanced Edition. Either the attack should charge much faster or should keep charging even if I'm hit while charging it. Or is this a hard mode "feature."

Well they are usefull, but your level should be high enough so you can dodge most attacks, otherwise you'll get hurt and your 'spell' will fail. (That spell failed thing should be fixed ;))

Level 4 is mostly for show-off anyway. If you get to a Level 4 attack and the target is still standing, you're doing something wrong.Unless it's Koschey* or something...-----------------------* - It's KOSCHEY not KOSCHAY! Screw you Azar Javed! Learn to spell the names of that which you summon!

Yeah I only use level 4's to mix things up for my own amusement. The best way I've found to get an opening is to use crinfrid oil and land a few hits first, so while the enemy is doubled over in pain, you have time to charge the attack. You're out of luck if the enemy is immune to pain, or if there's too many of them. Maribor Forest potion helps too, since it increases your max endurance, which'll sometimes let you Aard your enemies back a bit yet still have enough endurance to charge and launch a level 4 attack. But yeah, their usefulness is questionable. I had a lot of fun using them in Old Vizima though, since the enemies there are often fighting other NPC's and ignoring you. The level 4 strong steel is an insta-kill and fun to watch, a nice break from the stun finishes I'm otherwise guilty of abusing.

Use quen and charge up while you are shielded. Good against bosses, or just run around and collect a million regular monsters around you, quen and charge level 4 group style.Quen also lights up caves nicely. All hail quen.

LEVEL 4 + QUEN + YRDEN IS THE WINsorry for capitals but since everybody (except the post b4 me) seems to think level4 is for show-off I had to repeat that.charge up quen, run around and collect enemies, depending how hard they are you can then either:- charge up Yrden, use it and then charge up lvl4- or just charge up lvl4 and then slash awayI played the last chapters with Yrden for bottlenecks (position yourself so they have to use a certain way to get to you)and Quen for charging up lvl4 or other signs. btw if you boost Quen attackers get even hurt, so you don't have to anything than justrun around in your little magic bubble (I love it), drink some potion, read a good book and if you are bored, engage in a fight !
