Community interview with Andrzej Sapkowski

I've had an idea of interviewing Andrzej Sapkowski in the name of the international community - gathering questions here in the forum and then later I could ask Mr. Sapkowski the question when there's an opportunity for that. In the meantime, I'll try to find out whether your questions have already been answered in any Polish interviews and if that's the case, I'll translate the answers. Therefore ask away! :)

Well the most obvious question would be whether he likes the game ;D

I am interested in learning what life experiences Mr.Sapkowski had before writing The Witcher that he feels generated the most influence on his ideas. For Example,1. What literature did he read or have read to him that gave him such rich, original monsters as the Striga? The Koschey? The Kikamores? The Zeugal?2. What tales were told on his grandfather's knee that influenced his vision of The Witcher's world? 3. Were any of the characters in his books modeled after real people?

Without spoiling the plot for those people who didn't read all his books - what was the reason for the inclusion of Arthurian legends in the saga? (Since they represent for many people a symbol of comercialization of myths and legends in today's world.)

Has he played it? Does he like it? What does he think about having his hero resurrected? Does he ever regret having killed Geralt off? Has the game made him rethink his decision to write nothing more in the witcher world? If CDPR wanted to hire him as a consultant, would he write playable stories for them? Who's HIS favorite author? Which books does he read in his spare time? Which book by another author does he wish he had written?I think I've been told that the process for making a witcher is rather sketchy in the books -- can he tell us more about this?Would he want to be a witcher if he could be?Thanks for starting this thread! I appreciate how kind you are to those of us who don't speak Polish.

How does he feel about others taking up the thread, so to speak? I know that some authors are very touchy about fan fiction, while others don't have a problem with it. With a world as richly detailed as this, surely people have gone and written about it. Does he even read such stories, or doesn't he even care about a world he doesn't "use" anymore?Oh, and thanks for going to all that trouble, Ausir :) That interview is a nice idea.

Any more news on this possibility ? I guess I would like to know if he likes to subvert fairy tales for fun, or if he has a specific agenda with that and if so, what it is.

I'm working on it. And when I have more time, I'll sift through past interviews in Polish and translate the answers to questions asked here that he already answered in Polish.

Can you give me more details of the Zaklinac convention? So I can make a news on http://www.the-witcher.de/ for collecting questions. Is this con a pure Witcher con? (admirable, you get an exclusive guest with Mr. Sapkowski) If yes, who is the initiator? The Witcher.cz?Or is this convention a common games / rpg / larp / *anything else* event?Thx :)

This is a question for Borik and Jones; it seems that these two guys are organizing Czech Sapkowski's fans for years and this is part of their activities. Zaklinac CON (http://ff.zaklinac.com/) is part of http://www.festivalfantazie.cz/.

Zaklinac Con is part of Festival of Fantasy, we are only one of 42 programs lines such as Harry Potter, Lord of the rings, Star wars, Dune, Clasic fantasy etc., every day there are about 20 parallel programs + computer game room and a lot of films. There will be also Andrzej Pilipiuk. You could find more about FF in polish at http://www.festivalfantazie.cz/pl/index.php?pg, accomodation - http://www.festivalfantazie.cz/pl/index.php?pg=ubytovani , food - http://www.festivalfantazie.cz/pl/index.php?pg=stravovani (organizers were not able to launch English and German version of web, but it could be finished next year). Sapkowski will come 3.7. and i will be his guide, any other Pole will be welcome. :)
