Confused, version and patches

Hi, I bought a retail EE yesterday, installed it and I've been playing it mostly fine. About every 20-30 minutes or so I get really bag fps drop, it only last for about 2-3 minutes, then it's back to running along smoothly. I looked to see if there were any patches available, since it's a fresh install. But I can't tell what version I'm on. When I look at the readme in the launcher, it does not say anything at all about any patches or versions. I've downloaded all the version I can find, and they all tell my that "installed game version is invalid or incomplete" I tried looking at my witcher2.exe properties and it says my file verion 3.0.20054.8512 product version 0.0.0.0 language Polish(Poland) even though it's all been in english.

My specs are

Alienware M17x-R3
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
12 Gigs Ram
2 HDs 1 @ 750GB, 1 @ 500GB
Intel Core i7-2670QM @ 2.2GHz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 580M @ 4096GB Ram Driver version 296.10 (which is latest one)

when you bring up the main menu, does it have Enhanced Edition below Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings? if you do, EE is still i guess technically un-patched, so you would have the latest one.

you mean the ingame menu right? If so, yes, Enhanced Edition is below Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings. Ok, any ideas on the framerate issue then? That is what started me looking for a patch in the first place.

Sounds like something accessing the hard drive or game files while you play the game . Some antivirus programs come with "gaming" mode if yours does try that . If not then make an exception in you av program for Witcher 2 . Also shut down any non essential background programs. If you`re not sure what programs can be shut down then a program like
Gamebooster may help .

Well, according to my Av program they have an automatic "gamemode" to "lessen resources when an intensive program is running" I'm going to try turning it off completely first, then I'll try the gamebooster. See which one, if any works. and I'll let you know.

Ok, so an update. I've played with the gamebooster running, no difference. I've played with my AV turned off completly, no difference. I've played with both at the same time, no difference. I've run a task manager to see if anything is spiking or running at the time the game slows down, nothing changes. But the longer I play the game, the more frequently it happens. The more lights and shadows on the screen seems to make it happen more often. I shouldnt have to turn down my graphics settings since the game runs silky smooth all the rest of the time.
