''Connection refused, retrying in 10 seconds"

Whenever i start the witcher is shows a window with nothing in it but the title "laucher" an exclamation mark ( ! ) and an accept button,then in the launcher at the bottom theres the message "Connection refused, retrying in 10 seconds" this means that i can't install any updates or post my arena points. i have tried the first question on the TW2 for PC Technical FAQ topic, but it didnt worked. can anyone plz tell me how to fix this issue?

I just fixed this problem,dont know if it will work for you though, i installed the latest patches but instead of installing all, i just got the 3.3 patch (having the 3.1 patch installed) and that caused some issues while starting the game, and installed this fix: http://en.thewitcher.com/dotnet/ and now it goes perfectly.

Yes you can still install the patches but you must do so manually .
http://en.thewitcher.com/support/w2/

Also make sure that your firewall has the permission for Witcher 2 to access the internet

Thanks for your reply, i knew about updating manually, but still i can't upload my arena score, i have tried enabling it in the firewall but nothing, its still the same. I've had this issue since I installed the Enhanced Edition, i had to install the EE manually and ever since i have had this issue.

Have you tried reinstalling the .NET 4.0 full install

Just installed it, restarted my PC and nothing, still there, do you think it has something to do with Steam? i don't like starting it

Definitely has something to do with Steam with the leaderboards as well . Arena doesn`t work here with Steam . Steam has their own leaderboards . Available from your Steam profile . If you have applied any patches from here I would do a game cache integrity check and it will revert any changes and will install the original files from Steam . This is my Steam launcher


Alternatively if you don`t want the game on Stem you can always install the GOG backup copy . All you need is your Steam key . http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

I will try doing that, but i didn't bought the game through steam, i bought it fiscally,will it still matter?
How do i make a game cache integrity check?

I haven't got my TW2 on Steam, and it has always done the same thing as OP - still does..

Figured it was bad/lazy coding that wasn't going to get fixed, so I just ignore it.

For those asking, i bought a physical copy of the game and installed, all went good, till i installed EE and ever since i have had this issue.

Just to make sure that you`re aware that the hotfix you applied . By doing so you will not be able to upload any Arena scores .
