Rap some plastic foil around the camera (off course leaving the lens free) Hold it in place with a rubber band or two.
So if your fingers get sticky, you won't need to wash your hands every time before touching the camera.
Especially if the picture isn't what you wanted and need to re-arrange something.
I learned that the hard way after documenting the whole process of deboning poultry for a turducken last year.
