Convince me that Ciri is a good choice.

It really reads like most of them just don't want Ciri, or any woman, as the playable main character

This is The Witcher community now. Most don’t seem to care about keeping in step with good writing as long as they get what they want. The game isn’t canon so CDPR can do what they want and any choice is okay with them as long as they get another Witcher game.

Best just stepping away, as I have - you are not going to change anyone’s mind.

Maybe CDPR will prove us wrong time will tell, but I personally cannot accept what they have done to Ciri so they won’t be getting my money.
If we didn't care about good writing, we wouldn't be playing CDPR games in the first place

Well too bad cause Ciri is on her way!

Honestly though, men not being able to empathize with a female (lead) character? A tale as old as time.
I'm a guy, gender has never, ever been a factor in me being able to empathize with a character. Hell, if anything, it's a way more interesting experience to empathize with characters that aren't like me.

I can play as Geralt, Adam Jensen, Cal Kestis, 2B, A2, fem V, Ciri, Amanda Ripley, Isaac Clarke, Sheploo... I don't like them because of their gender, but because they're cool, interesting characters (well, I must admit my liking of 2B and A2 is also, ah, related to their gender but that's not the point).

And yes, Ciri is on her way, if they have anything against that, that's their problem and nobody else's.

I didn't read the books but I really enjoyed TW3. However, the main story line wasn't really extraordinary imo.

Ciri was on the run from the Wild Hunt. Geralt had to find her and save her.
I can see Ciri justified as the lead in a main story line, but I can't see her character being enjoyable throughout the game. Perhaps, I just can't see a girl as the lead. It's like if the next Metal Gear Solid didn't have Snake as the lead but some long lost daughter. It wouldn't be enjoyable.
I don't like playing female characters simply because when I play RPGs I play them as if they're me, and im not female. So the fantasy of playing a male character is how I like to play. Why isn't CDPR making a Witcher game where you can simply make your own Witcher like Cyberpunk?

If they get rid of her supermodel walk, i don't see a problem with her being the next main character.
I haven't finished all the endings of TW3 and the books take vastly different routes - all that aside i just have a small issue with Ciri being a Witcher, as in, fully mutated. She was already powerful without that, but i do see why the decision was made.
Honestly, the only thing i am really afraid is that they plough up the movement and make it as bad as TW3. The clumsy-clunkiness has killed Geralt more often than any monster encounter in my game. 😅
But m concerns are far more on the accessibility and visual side; questions like "will there be a lot of flashing light whenever she teleports" or "can she please look like a healthy woman instead of an ana-supermodel" outweight my concerns over "is she the right character".

She's an already established younger character the player base is familiar with who has a tragic backstory and has for her entire life been struggling against fate, thus making her a pretty ideal already baked in candidate to continue with the major themes of the dark fantasy setting of the game. Also she has connections to many other popular and established characters, meaning she can both forge a new adventure while also allowing for references and story beats many in the audience will already be familiar with.

She already mentioned drinking witcher potions (I think it was black blood maybe?) in the Ciri Witcher ending cutscene for Blood and Wine. Any lore issues one may have with it are already baked into the video game canon.

Then read them.
Ciri is literally the co protagonist of the books. It's obvious that you won't understand why she's the MC in TW4 when you haven't read THE ACTUAL SAGA.
To be completely honest, you don't even need to read the books to understand why she is the protagonist now, because The Witcher 3 is essentially her story, with her being the Chosen one, going on an adventure and saving the world from several big threats - it just was told from Geralt's perspective.
