There's definitely something wrong with some files on some servers. I downloaded part 2 and 24 more than 20 times from the links on the manual download page. I allways get the following checksums: a33eb8d6eb84cebdc9a7de8fbe233afa for TW2EE_Patch-2.bin and ad9b399beb6864651845c76b4300d628 for TW2EE_Patch-24.bin. Those files are NOT corrupt but have the SAME checksum as part 2 and 24 that were available before the 19th of april (they are part of the first batch of GOOD patch files). All other files I downloaded are ok.

we don't know has Edgecast handles this, it's their servers, I presume it takes a while for the files to propagate on all but it's 2-4 days already..strange... one thing is certain: if the MD5 sum check fails one needs to redownload that file, either use a different browser or download manager ( I use Opera and sometimes download stuff with VisualWget and they worked fine this time too )

I finally got this to install and to play!

[radical but simple move.]

the GOG backup version. go to their site and prepare to download. do not use their download program, use the "browser" version instead. You will see about 10 to 12 files. some are 2 gigs each. download them into a folder, all into one folder.
However....if you download a lot of them, in one computer session, stop after 4 gigs have been downloaded and reboot your computer then download the next 4 gigs. repeat until done.
then install from that folder, the setup exe..

done!
