Hello! My name is J Gray and I'm the media ambassador for R. Talsorian Games. We're Mike Pondsmith's company and the creators of Cyberpunk 2020, the original tabletop roleplaying game of the dark future. We're counting the days until the real 2020 by posting a fact a day about the Cyberpunk 2020 universe. We started on January 1st but the amazing folks here on the CDPR forums have asked us to make sure we're posting here as well. Today I'm catching up, with the first 16 days. Welcome to the dark future!
We were still learning about Johnny Silverhand and the Samurai on Day #3 of the #CountdowntotheDarkFuture. As a note, we're only counting down to the real world year of 2020. Not to a specific release date of any game, tabletop or otherwise.
Day #4 of our #CountdowntotheDarkFuture! We switched topics from Johnny Silverhand to the first edition of the tabletop RPG, affectionately known as Cyberpunk 2013 by the fan base.
On Day #5 of the #CountdowntotheDarkFuture, we went back in time to peer at the late 80s and the first edition of the Cyberpunk tabletop roleplaying game.
Even with amazing mechanics and world building, a good tabletop roleplaying game still needs killer art. We explored that on day #8 of our #CountdowntotheDarkFuture.
Obviously, people are curious about Night City, the primary setting of both Cyberpunk 2020 and Cyberpunk 2077. We started a weeklong look at Night City as it stands in the original tabletop RPG on day #9!
Even when the world of Cyberpunk 2020 looks like our own, there's subtle differences which inform the flavor of the setting. Day #10 of the #CountdowntotheDarkFuture is a great example of that.
For those who read this and are wondering, a Free Fire Emergency is just what it sounds like. If your vehicle is parked in a red or black zone when a firefight breaks out in Night City, the NCPD are within their legal rights to flip your car up on its side and use it as a barrier.
