Couple issues with Gerald's face

I lately started to notice several issues regarding his face vs NPCs (especially during cutscenes).
I'll be brief:

1)No wet/rain fx on Gerald during rain weathers, vs NPCs.
This is easily noticeable during cutscenes outside. The Npc will get the reflective water layer on his skin, while Geralt's remains flat.

2)Missing mipmaps on G's face skin texture. Other Npcs have some degree of mipmap, Geralt's texture is very flat and 2 dimensional, regardless of lighting and atmospheric conditions. Weird.

3) Beard pop-up. More often than not, if your character has grown a beard, it'll not show in the first couple frames of whatever cutscene, but simply pop-in during said sequence.

Thanks in advance everybody for eventual contributions to this thread.

Regards.

Why are you trolling a serious thread?

You do realise the names are trasliterations from the Common Tongue into Polish into English right?

Surely I am not alone in noticing these?
Unless my game is bugged for some reason (maybe mods) and therefore it would be nice to know..

I have wet fx on GeralT(not d), skin is perfectly fine, it's definitely the most detailed one of all characters, and the beard pop-up, well, since the game has awful texture pop-in everywhere, it's not a problem with GeralT(not d) himself, but the game's texture streaming. When (if) they fix the general pop-in, the beard will be fixed too.

Interesting. WHat game version and platform are you playing onto?

I'm on 1.06 on pc and G. has 0 mipmaps (all the time) or wet fx (when raining) on his face.

PC, 1.06. But I never actually looked for water fx on his face, I am usually more focused on the conversation than too look for bugs with a magnifying glass. But I will check more carefully (when I get home... and I don't forget... and if I don't get a 6 hour straight sunshine/no rain game session :p)

Ok thanks.

Since you said this, are you sure your G. has mipmaps on his face texture? Mipmaps dictate reflectiveness. For instance, many if not most NPCs have sort of a reflective layer ont heirs (like they are a bit sweaty) while Gerald's is always very dry, as if it was made by paper or something. A bit of a dry-soil look if you will.

That isn't what Mipmaps are. They are pre-computed downsampled versions of the texture.

What you (probably) mean is bump maps, specular maps as used in material shaders... I really don't know how you can describe Geralt's face as blander than anyone else's. I'd say that it is arguably rather more detailed than most (with the exception of certain other younger but more aged-marked people). Doesn't sound at all like what I see.

Yes, my apologies, I'm actually talking about normal maps I think. Which should determine light reflection off the object in question.

I don't know why you mention blandness or detail, as I never said his face textures are subpar or anything.

So for instance when raining or under cutscene lighting you don't notice a difference between G's skin versus NPCs?
It's as if it has no normal maps. I remember noticing under normal circumstances with Dijkstra especially.
I think rain just makes the issue more noticeable.

You do realize that his name is spelled GERALT, not with a D. Misspelling his name doesn't prove a point. In game spelling is Geralt. Deal with it. Or are you trolling??

Whatever "maps" are supposed to be used, indeed his face doesn't get wet like other npc's. His clothes, do get wet though. In any case, you will most likely not notice it unless you are actually looking for it. It's small "bug" probably way down on the priority list for the devs. I wouldn't expect a fix for it anytime soon.

I think Geralt's face looks fine in cutscenes. However, in game it's a different matter...

(Teleports in, already casting. A blast of light. Undead are turned to ash even as they claw up from the ground. Then, silence.)

Sorry...two-year necro. Had to be done.

(Nods solemnly. A portal rips open the space behind him. A crack like thunder, and all is again still.)

I've landed in a few lakes, myself. But it beats Amtrak.
