CP2077 2.2 unplayable

+
I'm about at my wit's end with this, so I'm open to some ideas.

Put simply, CP2077 runs like garbage. I'm topping off at 30FPS at LOW settings at 1280x720 resolution and running less than 20 on average. Gunfights and driving are almost impossible to play, as frame rate drops close to 10. The GPU runs steady at around 85ºC

My system specs are as follows:
Intel Core i7-12700H
16GB RAM
Running on NVME SSDs
RTX 3070 Laptop GPU
Windows 11
Drivers are all current.

I'm well, well within the recommended spec of the game, so I don't understand. Been a while since I played it, but last time i did, It ran very smoothly on an older PC running an i5 and an RTX 2060 Laptop GPU.

Any thoughts?

Hi,
I assume it's a "fresh" installation, no mod and a brand new playthrough, right?
First, you should try to verify the game files if you didn't :
Then maybe clean install your drivers, just in case :
NVIDIA
I. Download the latest drivers using the following link: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
II. Download Display Driver Uninstaller and run it to remove previous versions of drivers.
III. Clean install drivers that you've downloaded in step 1.

Hi. It feels like you are running your CP2077 on internal GPU of processor, not your 3070
You can try doing this, quote from Microsoft:
You may try the following steps and check if you are able to disable the integrated graphics card:

a. Click on Start, and then click on Run.
b. Type “devmgmt.msc” without quotes, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.
a. Expand Display Adapters.
b. Check if you are able to see both the graphics card.
c. You may right click on the Intel HD 4000 graphics card and click on Disable.

Is the OP's problem a recent thing or has it always been like this? If recent, in addition to suggestions above, you might try rolling back to the last Windows Update. Not so long ago there was an update that totally wrecked a lot of games' performance. I don't know if it did it for Cyberpunk but it definitely did for games that you wouldn't in a million years expect to require high spec machines.

As you're on a laptop you might also check your power settings (in case they're not set for maximum performance) and that all vents are free of dust (in case the CPU is getting too hot).

For anyone curious, the laptop is an MSI Pulse GL66 12UGKV. I will now answer y'all in a single post:

Yes, that is correct. It is a fresh installation, unmodded. See the response after this one; I used DDU and did a clean installation after disabling the Iris adapter, because everything runs like garbage on the NVIDIA now.

You can try doing this, quote from Microsoft:
The symptoms definitely make it look that way. The in-game benchmark is squawking back the RTX 3070 as the adapter, not the Intel integrated. Also, the GPU is running at around 90ºC, which would suggest its running as well. The GPU workload isn't especially high, but the CPU is pegged, so maybe there's something there. Just before posting this, I did disable the Iris array and got interesting results. The entire computer performs poorly with the Iris disabled, and the display panel went from being capable of 144Hz to locked at 64Hz as a 'Generic PNP monitor' so there's something integral between the display panel and the Iris array.

Add to it that my GPU is now running at close to 90ºC when Windows is idle. It took CP2077 2 minutes to make it through the unskippable stuff at the beginning and to the main menu, at which I had a breathtaking experience at less than 10 FPS (on the main menu, didn't bother trying benchmark or gameplay).

After this, I used DDU to wipe out the graphics drivers and reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers fresh. Windows performance increased, but CP2077 won't even launch now. GOG syncs save data, tries to run the game, and then syncs save data, presumably as it would if the game were to close. Also, the display panel showing up as above is still a problem. I did a Verify/Repair (GOG Version), still wouldn't run from the GOG interface. Was able to get it going by running the executable directly, only to get more breathtaking 5 FPS at the main menu.

I turned the Iris back on, and it took me right back to where I was before. These are NVIDIA's 'Optimized settings' for my machine, btw:

I don't like where I think this conversation is headed, but let me know what you think, anyway.

It's been probably a year since I last played CP2077 on this specific device, if ever. Honestly, I last remember marathon playing it on the previous device, so admittedly, that would have been several versions ago. I think the last time I played might have been before the SSD became a requirement. Re-imaging is on my list of things to try as a last resort, and if so, I'll try an older build of the OS. Doesn't hurt to try.

As to power settings, I do already have that ticked universally to run for max performance, and I took my case apart just a few weeks ago and cleaned out the heatsinks and fans. I have 64GB of RAM coming monday, so I'll do that again for good measure. The response above might be on to something, I'm exploring that.

To add to this, I've installed MSI Center and there is a 'performance mode' that now toggles on when I play a game. Not the greatest yet, I'm not able to pull a near constant 30FPS at Low: Raytracing/1920x1080.

NB just in case you're not aware (you're pretty savvy so I doubt it), Windows Update does allow you just to roll back updates for a certain period of time after they're installed (assuming you haven't set it not to keep the files), in which case reimaging just to check if a Windows update was the problem wouldn't be necessary. I THINK the one that caused widespread carnage with frame rates in various games was 2024H2.

I'll look into it, however:

Well, well. What a difference 64GB RAM makes compared to 16. I guess I'll go with that. RAM shortage. Might also roll back to 23H2.

I had this problem while playing Diablo III of all things and started getting really bad stuttering a couple of weeks ago. Someone in chat pointed out how it could possibly have been that NVidiva did an Auto-setup / optimization (which boggles the mind why that's default).
I changed the Nvidia settings to manual and it was fixed.
Then I started to get this problem with CP2077 and low and behold the auto setting was on again.
I think the manual setting has to be set-up for each game you have on your system. Just a theory, I'm no techie.

Anyway after setting it to manual settings CP2077 started playing smoothly again. Well, as smoothly as it can on an i5 Quad core cpu, GeForce GTX 960 and 8GB RAM hehe. It's actually quite surprising.
