The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition
Windows 7 64 bit (up to date)
Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.4Ghz
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX680
Boxed
Enhanced Edition

After the intro the screen goes black and nothing happens or if I try to skip the intro the intro freezes.
I Ctrl Alt Delete and into Task Manager and "the witcher 2 not responding". So I end task then a second box comes up "Changelist 1 not responding checking windows".

The game used to work ok on this machine one and a half years ago when I bought it to run this game on better graphics settings.

About the only thing I saw in the Dxdiag report is that your Realtek audio drivers are about 3 years old . Have you tried right clicking the launcher and select properties and in the compatibility tab put a check in the run as administrator box click apply and ok and retry the game .

I did try it running it as administrator and it made no difference and it’s I bit ordinary but the 3 year old driver is up to date (the machine was new one and half years ago).

I suspect an update to windows or one of my drivers may be the problem as hardware wise I have not changed a thing. But that is only a wild guess.

Are you using an old version or beta version of MSI Afterburner ? I seem to remember something about when running Afterburner that would cause the changelist1 not responding error .

No luck after reloading Direct X and I believe all I’m getting is error 1002 application hang.

While looking for something in the Libraries/Documents file I noticed I had two The Witcher files for some reason (this has not affected The Witcher game that I can see), upon further inspection I also found a Witcher 2 and a The Witcher 2 file. There was no other doubling up on files and I did not duplicate those files manually so I do not know where they came from. Out of curiosity I deleted both files (Witcher 2 and The Witcher 2) and the game started properly and adding a new The Witcher 2 file. Now I have been running it for about a week now and the intro freeze does still occasionally happen and sometimes the game just stops and goes back to desk top (I suspect the latter maybe that I am running Ultra graphics setting with my GTX680).

I hope my issues may be of help to someone else.
