crash to desktop in flotsam

not sure if this has already been answered but i keep crashing to desktop in flotsam. the prologue was smooth ..no problems but as soon as i enter the town flotsam i started crashing to desktop every 5-15 mins i do have the new 1.3 patch installed

my specs are
intel 2500k
msi p67a gd65
gtx 560 ti superclocked
windowns 7 64bit
8gb ram

with latest drivers installed i dont think this rig should be having problems at high settings and it hasnt until now..if anyone has had this problems and has a fix i would greatly appreciate it

Do you know what kind of temps you are getting with your card while gaming ? If not you can use a program like Msi afterburner or EVGA precision to monitor it in real time .

It's unfortunately an unfixed bug, because some people get ctd's all the time *raises hand*, some never. As of now, the only solution is to make good friends with F5. But beware, there is also a ctd on F5 (or even regular save) bug, that hasn't been fixed, either.

High temps would cause you to crash, of course, but I never have high temps, so that's not always the culprit.

yea my temps are fine havn't had a problem with that..i just find it weird that it just starts up when i reach this town flotsam..will it stop after im out of this place or continue throughout the rest of the game? i figured the newest patch would fix such a common problem

I guess the problem is that not everybody gets these crashes. I know of people, who have been playing since May17 and have never crashed and others crash every couple minutes. I don't want to hazard a guess for you, but I have been crashing everywhere since after the prologue. I even tried the 3GB switch, because I have a 32bit Win7, but that's not relevant with your system and amount of RAM.

Disabling everything in the background you don't need might be a good idea, I suspect it might be a software incompatibility - but I have no idea which kinds of processes might cause this. And nobody else has come up with a solution, so it remains a trial and error mystery.

The Witcher 2 can really stress any graphic card. We had many cases of crashing on technical support mailboxes that were caused by fabrically overclocked graphic cards. Try downclocking the card to reference values. It often helped even on cards that were not overclocked.

Well, now that is interesting. My card is oc ex facory as well and I have been considering downclocking for those hot summer days. Since we've had none of those since, I haven't yet tried it, but someone recommended MSI Afterburner to me for that purpose.

And yes, you can change the setting back any time.

While you're being so explicit, which settings would you suggest for GTX460Amp?

Okay, thanks for the tips. :)
I'll try that as soon as I take up TW2 again, right now I'm working up an appetite by playing something else.

ok so i did turn down my clock settings using msi afterburner (didn't need to keep afterburner running while playing TW2) to normal factory settings and played through a few hours crash free. so that seemed to be the remedy for me ...at least for now..thanks everyone for your help.

For a standard GTX 460
Core clock 675
Shader clock 1350
memory clock 1800 (may be read as 900 by afterburner)

Also with Afterburner you can specify card clocks to run with specific profiles .

i take it all back..even after downclocking my gpu i have still been getting crashes to desktop. right now i am fighting the kayran and as frustrating as it is be beat him normally im sure it is twice as annoying when the game crashes every 5-10 mins..i have tried turning the settings to lowest and everything in between. i would really like to play and beat this game because it seems like a great one, but the point im at now has made this game is unplayable

Is this a disc install or digital download ? If digital you might run a file integrity check .
