Has not do to with oc,s has not to do with afterburner, has not to do with hyperthread, has not do with power manegment, if people think that the problem, then they trolling or dont know what they talking about, i can play other games perfectly fine without any problems, its the game with the badly patch or the bad nvidia drivers,.

It might have been already mentioned, but removing frame rate cap has helped a lot for me. I still leave VSYN on, just disable 60fps limit. I have gone from crash each 10 minutes to crash once per 4-5 hours.

I was crashing within 15 seconds of loading up my game with blackscreen with sound still going and I could hear myself moving around and what not, using the latest drivers, something I did that seem to fix it for now was go into steamapps/common/The Witcher 3/bin/x64 and delete everything in the x64 folder then tell steam to verify the games integrity and have it re-download all of those files and I seem to not be crashing now, don't know why this has helped but it did.

Before 1.05 only downclocking helped (clocking to reference frequencies actually).

Now it runs quite fine as long as you don't let nvidia tools optimize the settings for the game (which instantly makes the game crash again every few minutes).

Have you tried also to turn off Hairworks? It's just a test not a solution.

Hi there just my observations based on the latest Nvidia drivers (535.06), my Palit Nvidia 970 GTX on a Win 7 System and several games (Battelfield 3/The Witcher III patched to 1.03/GTA V)

Problems (The Witcher):
I occasionally got the game freeze bug, where I get thrown back to the desktop, the sound is playing on and I cannot alt-tab back into the game. This mostly happened in conversations and the inventory menu (but not that frequent. Could play for hours until this happened) The Game itself never hard crashed or had any other bugs, other than the known engine ones, like the npc pop in and some quest bugs, but on patch 1.03 it is not "that bad" then it is now with 1.05/06. I love that the devs are pushing out patches very frequent and try to get all the bugs out there as fast as possible, but I do not like that the new patches get more things broken, then they fix...

Problems (BF3):
After the latest update of the Nvidia Driver Pack (Along with all the additional crap like 3d Works, Audio HD Driver, etc.) I noticed a great deal of stability issues while playing Battlefield 3 (which never before happened), the game just crashed very frequent back to the desktop and I got the Windows Event "BF3.exe crashed with a Problem in the module nvwgf2um.dll. Granted, it is an old game by now but I play it very often and in long sessions, and it is very frustrating to loose all your advancements, cause the game drops right before the match is resolved...

Problems GTA V (with ASI Mods all over the Place):
None, regardless of the drivers! Can play for hours and do not get any lock ups or problems. I have to admit, I am very impressed by Rockstars QA work for that installment. Thumbs up

Fix?!:
Well, since I constantly was kicked out of the Game sessions in BF, after just minutes of play, I was forced to investigate the matter. I checked forums and how to's, disabled some Origin settings, made a "clean" install of the drivers, checked for viruses without any luck. So I reverted back to the 388.44 drivers and installed them manually, which solved my problem for BF3 instantly. GTA is also still working without me noticing any difference and The Witcher III is also still working fine (but I did not spend that much time playing it lately, to be honest) but it did not crash during my 3-4 hours of play. I am no fan of downgrading drivers, but in that case, it helped me solve my problems.

Maybe this alone is no help for you guys, but I still thought to share the information with the rest of you, to maybe come to any conclusion.

After 2,5 year with Palit 660 2gb, yesterday finally i become a proud user of my new MSI 970 4gb card... proud user... for 1 hour, until i started to play Witcher 3.
On 660 i've NEVER got any bsod, crash, anything... on 970, my longest run take... 10 minutes. Tried around 20 times with different settings and different drivers, i made a lot of benchmarks, tests to find what is going on... nothing. BSOD ALL THE TIME.
I've already made RMA request, and i am sending 970 back to the supplier. I've tried GTA V - 10 minutes bsod, then 15 minutes bsod.
Seriously, this is the biggest joke i've ever seen. Both CDPR and nVidia - SHAME ON YOU.
At the moment i still cannot decide what should i do - return and ask for a refund, exchange or should i tried different brand...

Why are you blaming CDPR for a faulty graphics card?

You also shouldn't be upset with Nvidia because things break. Not everything is perfect especially with electronics. It was one card out of thousands. Odds are your next one will be fine if you decide to get a replacement.

This same problem appears on GTX 980, Titan X and even Radeon R9 290. It's definetly not cards fault. Something is seriously fu#@$d up with this game optimization...

This.

It happens across all cards. All drivers. All manufacturers. All brands. All overclocks. All underclocks. All combinations of parts. All combinations of settings.

One guy is running it perfectly fine at ultra on a 970. The next guy is crashing every 5 minutes with the same settings on a 970. The next guy is crashing every few hours.

Whether using old revisions/bios cards from last year, or brand new ones from this year. Whether using the 347.88 drivers from last year or the 353.30 drivers released today. Whether overlocked, stock, or underclocked.

Every single person besides a select lucky few has experienced some form of crash, black screen, blue screen, freeze, sound loop, etc., with this game. And I am inclined to think those select lucky few do crash, they are just blind fanboys fully devoted to CDPR in every way. I say that because almost every post on this forum of people claiming to be running the game perfectly fine is also usually accompanied by some kind of insult at the person claiming the crash... "I run the game perfectly fine! Your PC is probably just broken!" "You just have an unstable overclock because you're incompetent." "Blah." "Blah." "Bleh."

347.88 drivers did the trick for me. Been playing for days, overclocking and all. Crashed like crazy on the 350.XX drivers. GTX970.

Remove everything related to nvidia in the task manager, especially the nvidia experience driver.
It works for me.

we shouldn't have to do this kind of stuff to get the game working 6 months later. i am never buying a game from this company ever again. i don't pirate games, but this company is on that list of companies never to buy from ever again. its a damn joke. every person i know who has a 970 has the same exact problem. ITS 100% GAME BREAKING AND NOT 1 SINGLE FIX FOR IT

How about posting crash logs?
Perhaps THIS can improve your experience?

Edit: Seems I eliminated crashes for my 970GTX.

Maybe this helps someone else too:

1.) Set page file to 16GB fixed size.
2.) Add this registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers]
"TdrDelay"=dword:00000008

Did patch 1.10 finally resolve this, anyone?

Exact same issue with the 970. I eventually fixed it when I set everything to the default High settings, changed the Post-Processing ambient occlusion setting from HBAO+ to SSAO, and in the Video screen settings I went with windowed-borderless mode. While trying to figure this out I also uninstalled and reinstalled the latest nvidia drivers. This worked for me, and I'll keep trying to tweak some settings to Ultra if it will allow, but this is a solid place to start.
