Critical hit calculation bug?

Critical hit calculation bug?

Opps, please move this mods, didn't see the sticky.

How is critical damage calculated? Seems bugged as I can't arrive at these numbers no matter what maths I use, unless it is override only, which seems silly.

Since this game hates PrintScreen, I will list the values manually.

This list is only for light steel crit, but I assume the bug affects all the attacks as my heavy steel crit doesn't make sense either.
Base critical is 5% chance and 110% damage (1.1x crit) for all attacks as far as I know.

Spikeroog Longsword (Steel) Level 11. 100% durability.
103-127 damage

+20 armor piercing
+75% critical hit damage bonus
<some sign bonuses that are irrelevant>

Active Skills

Katakan Mutagen
+5% attack power +3x sword skills (total: +20% attack power)

Muscle Memory
Fast attack damage +25%

Cat School Techniques
+25% crit damage bonus per light armor gear equipped, I have 4 (total: +100% crit damage bonus)
+5% fast attack damage per light armor gear equipped, I have 4 (total: +20% fast attack damage bonus)

Precise Blows
+75% crit damage bonus
+10% chance to crit

Focus
Adrenaline increases sword damage. Now if only they were kind enough to list the exact amount....

Whirl (irrelevant)
Resolve(irrelevant)
Griffin Mutagen(irrelevant)

The total crit bonus is not provided in the stats page, only total crit damage (WHY?). Therefore I have to calculate it myself.
Total using additive method: (base)110 +75+100+75= +250% or a total of 360% or 3.6x.
Total using override: 100 is the highest, so 200 total.
Total using multiply: 1.1 * 1.75 * 2.00 * 1.75 =6.125x

Now onto the stats page:
Steel sword fast attack damage: 218
Steel sword fast attack critical hit damage: 534
534/218 = 2.45x approx(self-calc, remember the multipler isn't provided in the stats page)
Even if it were only cat school that were bugged and it's 2.5x, it should be 545 crit damage. Otherwise the base crit would have to be 0.95x and that doesn't make sense.

Now the even stranger thing. In battle against some level 7 nearly naked bandits with crap armor, I do 240 damage but only crit for 505 damage. You can attribute the 22 bonus to armor piercing and/or focus, but then why is the critical doing less damage?

Any help would be appreciated as I want my crit-fishing build to be viable!

Din't though about the crit damage so far, but your argument makes sence. Would also be interested if somebody could clarify it.

Hello deltarayedge I will try to explain from where are these numbers are cumming from.

First, the actual critical damage bonus is +25% (125% of normal damage).
Second, with each level your attack power is increased slightly. It seems that your level bonus is equal to +25%.
Third, every damage bonus in the game is applied against base sword damage.
Fourth, stats page takes into consideration average values. In your case 115 points of damage

Saying that lets look how things are calculated.
Your overall fast attack damage bonus is equal to: 20% + 25% +20% + 25% (hidden level bonus) = 90%
Damage calculation: 115 * 1.9 = 218,5

Your fast attack critical damage bonus is equal to: 25% + 75% + 100% + 75% = 275%
As I mentioned this bonus is applied against base sword damage NOT the calculated fast attack damage you see on the stat pages. As such critical damage calculation looks like this: 115 * (1.9 + 2.75) = 115 * 4.65 = 534,75

When comes to damage you see in the actual game this is result of sword random damage.
Fast attack damage range: 195 - 241
Fast attack critical hit range: 478 - 590

Focus
Adrenaline increases sword damage. Now if only they were kind enough to list the exact amount....

In character screen navigate to the top of Battle Trance skill line. There you will find info you are probably looking for. +10% to attack power per Adrenaline point.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks for your long explanation, this part make calculations really counter intrutive and I would never have guessed it myself. Guess my dreams of high critical damage are impossible now, it scales much worse than I hoped. Since the maths works this way, it seems stacking damage bonus is way more efficient.
