CTD hell in Novigrad since 1.05

Tried both 353 and 352 Nvidia drivers, underclocking, etc. When approaching the part of the city of the Junior or Triss matter of life and death quests there's a part of the city that seems only half there with missing textures, and then CTD. It's not random, it's always once crossing the same spots in the map.

Also since 1.05 I did the return to bog quest and in that area there were houses with invisibles walls, only windows and doors, and disappearing objects all around. Actually exploring a little more the missing textures thing seems everywhere.

Any way to downgrade to 1.04 with working saves?

I approached Novigrad from Velen knowing I'd expect troubles, coming from a large windmill. Hit this particular spot and I could NOT go beyond it without crashing. I eventually tried a different route, and made it in only to experience crashing hell. Here's a copy of a reply I made to another similar thread.

My CTDs in Novigrad were of an order of magnitude more numerous than all other crashes in the game combined. Someone suggested switching from fullscreen to borderless, or vice versa, and I had a very successful crash-free run in Novigrad after having did that. Yet, in Velen itself, I must be in fullscreen and in Skellige I have to be in borderless. Game's mighty finicky.

Thanks, but I tried borderless (which sucks anyway because I play 1080 and the monitor is 1200, so I have two slices of the win desktop on top and bottom) and it didn't solve anything. Plus the new 'disappearing houses' bug ...

Ok, I seem to have solved it by uninstalling and reinstalling the whole thing. GOG version, updated straight from 1.01 to 1.05 and now stuff works again. Deleted the user settings files in the Documents folder for good measure before.

I've wondered if the game files could withstand updates overwriting other files, rather than just reinstalling the whole thing over so everything is actually fresh. Hmmm.

I am doing a fresh reinstall for Steam version to see if I get the right files. Funny enough I never got that D3D11.dll file that everyone was talking about when I updated Witcher 3. So I am wondering if that files is the reason why my game was crashing so much and that ugly Crash to Desktop error.

Don't know if it will help you guys but after setting all your graphics settings go to the file in Windows and set it to ready only. The engine does love to mess with that file even when you haven't changed any graphics settings, setting the file to read only in Windows stops any stealthy changes you haven't "sanctioned" ;)
