Custom resolution?

Custom resolution?

Hey,

I'm looking for a way to run the game at a custom resolution, slightly lower than my native resolution, in full screen. I realize I can run it in windowed mode, and understand the effects of upscaling the picture.
By setting custom values in the .ini file (e.g. 80% of my native resolution, for both width and height), the game cannot initialize in full screen (direct3d 9 device initialization error) and reverts back to windowed mode.
Is there any way to force the game to run in full screen this way?

The reason I want to do this is because I find it looks better with medium-high settings (tried it on an almost similar although disproportionate supported resolution) than native resolution on low settings, while giving me a better FPS rate.

Processor:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory:8192MB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

Thanks a lot :)

Don`t think so . The game is already configured for 16:10 , 16:9 , 5:4 , and 4:3 ratios and any attempt to force it in an unsupported resolution is only asking for more trouble like you`re experiencing . On laptops i have found as others have that the best all round screen resolution is 1280 x 720 while also giving the best performance .

Well, thanks for you reply. 1280x720 looks pretty good -barely blurry, ~3-5 FPS gain.
Also, is there a way to enable AA in cutscenes only (I could use an injector, manually disabling/enabling, but would be best if there's an alternative)? That would be neat as I only notice jagged edges in cutscenes, and they cause a rather important performance hit otherwise..
Thanks again ^^

Since the release of the EE there are a few hitters performance wise that were better before the EE .
Have you tried disabling
Cinematic Depth of Field
Depth of Field-Cutscenes .

I believe the latest Nvidia drivers have FXAA included in them . But for cutscenes only i don`t think so .

I actually don't like DOF so it's already disabled.
The FPS isn't as bad as it might sound when I post: I get something between 18 (in heavy combat) and 35.

You might try this
witcher 2 tweaker
http://witcher.nexusmods.com/mods/181
Gives a lot more selections to choose from .

Once selections have been made it`s generally best to run from the witcher2exe . Any attempt to run the configurator will result in changes being erased and set to the configurator settings .

OK forget last reply...i know what has already been seen cannot be unseen . :p

If you set to low specs what FPS do you get ?
And then start enabling one thing at a time until you get a decent balance of performance .
Also if you haven`t done so make an exception in your antivirus for witcher 2 in case real time scanning may be slowing you down a little .

In roche's encampment:
current settings: 21-35
low settings: 21-33
medium settings: 16-27
(presets are those of the tweaker)

The current settings (no downscaling whatsoever, bloom and shafts enabled, max texture sizes available, worst possible shadows because I don't notice a graphical difference anyway; the foliage distance is low because it doesn't bother me: looks awesome on close/medium ranged objects, great on far objects) look much better than the low settings and I get pretty much the same framerate... Not sure what to think.

My settings:
Code:
[Rendering]
TextureDownscale=0
AtlasTextureDownscale=0
DetailTextureDownscale=0
MaxTextureSize=2048
MaxAtlasTextureSize=2048
TextureMemoryBudget=1024
TextureTimeBudget=10
MaxCubeShadowSize=256
MaxCubeShadowCount=1
MaxSpotShadowSize=256
MaxSpotShadowCount=1
FoliageDistanceScale=0.5
MeshDistanceScale=0.7
CharacterLodGameplayDownscale=0
AllowBloom=1
AllowShafts=1
AllowAntialias=0
AllowBlur=0
AllowDOF=0
AllowDecals=1.0
AllowVignette=1
AllowSharpen=0
AllowRain=1
AllowSSAO=0
AllowMotionBlur=0
AllowScatterDOF=0
AllowCutsceneDOF=0
DanglesLimiter=0
ShadowQuality=0
ShadowedLights=0
uberSampling=0
Fullscreen=1
Vsync=0
1280x720 resolution (for all of the settings, FYI)

If you get a program like MSI Afterburner and set the OSD (On Screen Display) to show GPU Usage if it`s at 90% or better which i suspect it is that would mean that your card is doing all that it can do .

Ah, didn't notice that -I have MSI Afterburner with OSD, strange how I already have all you're asking for-, thanks a lot for pointing it out.
