Cyberpunk 2 - modding/multiplayer future.

+
I have a couple of questions and one piece of news that I can't confirm, but I trust the person who told me this.

1. Third-person view: Will it be in Cyberpunk 2 (or the multiplayer version)?

2. Official modding: Should we expect an SDK or a mod editor? (Easier on UE5?)

3. Official multiplayer: Any recent news?

4. Trailer and release: When can we expect it? (Any thoughts on 2029-2030?)

5. UGC content: Will Cyberpunk 2 be more powerful? What are your thoughts?

I recently spoke with a former fiveM developer, and he told me that, according to his source/information, the new game will feature something similar to fiveM in Cyberpunk 2 (Project Orion).

I can't confirm or deny his words, but he says the developers liked fiveM and are exploring the implementation of a similar ugc/modding framework. Anything is possible...

1 & 4: Nobody except maybe CDPR knows.
3: Nope.
2: I don't think there is any information yet. Far too early.
5: Probably, purely because several years newer.

Considering the transition to UE5, I think the modding capabilities will be better than what we have at the moment.

I think modding will become better and more popular on unreal engine.

We will see. So far modding doesn’t seem like a big strength of UE5.
My guess is some things might work better, others might be worse.

It depends of the game :)
Look at ARK which is on UE4 (I think UE5 for the "next-gen") and there are tons of mods, and big mods (Wildcard added few of the "mods" officially in the game like. Complete custom maps, inlcuding new dino, new stuff,,... like Ragnarok or Valguero).

I would like CP2 not to be purely in FPP.
The CP77's 48min demo had those amazing video sequences.
It would be great to have them in CP2 :)

For number 5

If CDPR takes advantage of Unreal Engine 5 like they did with their RED engine, I expect it to be far better. It is more powerful. I think Cyberpunk 2077 was such a bad launch because they were doing double duty. Developing an engine and developing a game at the same time. Also launching early in my opinion. As far as I know the PS4 and Xbox One versions are working decently now. I know I was able to get through the storyline on my PS5 Pro without too many crazy game breaking bug. The worst thing that happened was my car randomly got flung across the world and I died, lol.

Unreal Engine 5 is far better made, however the biggest problem I've seen with dev teams is they don't optimize everything these days. I think CDPR will optimize it as much as they can. Then release it, then optimize some more because getting thousands of bug reports pointing at problems helps with fixing them. QA can't find every bug, although I've heard that Cyberpunk 2077 QA did find a lot of bugs but were ignored. I'm hoping CDPR is unlikely to make those same mistakes.

So Unreal Engine 5 has the ability to create a "Custom Mod Engine" variant which would make modding significantly easier if they do that. It would allow them to create specific APIs users can check up and windows so players know how to edit specific situations.

The Problem is Unreal Engine was not designed Pro-Modding centric. Unreal Engine 5 uses all or nothing model, where two things can't be edited by 2 different mods easily. One overwrites the other and you specifically need a 3rd mod to merge the other 2.

There are ways around this but it is something the developer would have to implement where it specifically calls for files that edit specific file to merge.

Essentially Unreal Engine Team really should focus on supporting a modding platform and make Unreal Engine 6 more modding friendly.
Unreal Engine 5 is pretty much End of Life when it comes to development as 5.8 has been confirmed the final version before 6.

And since CP2077 uses UE5.x it means modding won't be easy unless CDR specifically creates a custom variant designed specifically with modding in mind.
