Cyberpunk 2020 / 2077 Terminology Thread

In this thread we discuss some of the words and phrases associated directly with Cyberpunk 2020, that may confuse people who are unfamiliar with the game.

ACPA - Assisted Combat Personal Armor, Power Armor; Usually relegated only to military and police, ACPA's or Power Armor, are what the name implies... a suit of armor pwoered by internal means, providing the wearer with higher strength, armor, and weapons capabilties, and in some advanced models, higher speed and agility, and even the ability for flight. The Hadsuits and K suits from Bubblegum Crisis, the Landmates from Appleseed, and the Madox-01 armor are all excellent examples. Important note, Power Aromor in Cyberpunk 2020 are NOT giant robots, they are typically no taller than ten feet tall at the largest, and at teh lightest end are no larger and similiar in appearance to plate armor.

Arasaka - Arasaka itself is a Japanese megacorporation, primarily specializing in arms, military vehicles and equipment, and private security. They are also a zaibatsu, with subsidiary companies in a number of different areas from automobile manufacturing, electronics. cyberbetics, food and drink, and pharmaceuticals.

AV - Aerodyne Vehicle; this is a vectored thrust vehicle, propelled by maneuverable jet thrusters or turbofans... They often take the form of a flying bus, but sleeker models that look like cars, or even a cross between a helicopter and fighter jet exist. The spinner from Bladerunner, or the Drop Ships from Aliens or Starship Troopers are good examples... the flying cabs from Fifth Element however were not AV's, as they were propelled by some magical magnetism or something...

Biotechnica - Biotechnica is a megacorporation specializing in agriculture and Bioware.

Bioware - Bioware is a very expensive organic alternative to cybernetics... Bioware includes the use of cloned limbs and organs to replace those lost or damaged, and biological/genetic enhancments that augment the recipients physical capabilities. Like Cyberware, Bioware causes humanity loss, but unlike Cyber bioware is virtually undetectable without invasive surgery and is not effected by electricity or electromagnetic pulse.

BORG - Full Conversion Cyborg, FBC: This is a person who has undergone near total body replacement with Cybernetic prosthetics and augmentations, in some cases only the brain and spinal cord remain, but in others internal and sexual organs remain. The majority of Full Conversion Packages appear to be robotic bodies, often stylized.... other much more expensive models are covered in synthetic flesh called Realskin to appear human, in the most expensive versions, these "flesh covered" borgs are nearly indistinguishable from normal humans. There are also heavily armed and armored military versions.... these are too be feared. Robocop, Briareos from Appleseed, and Kusanagi from Ghost In the Shell are all examples of Full Conversion Cyborgs.

C-SWAT - Cybernetic Investigations Division, Max-Tac; C-Swat is a section of the police department wholly dedicated to cybernetic crimes and dealing with threats from augmented individuals. They serve as both investigators of crimes involving cyberentics as well as their more notorious duties of being called in to subdue or destroy those who have gone over the edge of cyberpsychosis.

Cyberpsychosis - As a person implants cybernetics and augmentations into their body, they begin to set themselves apart from normal humans. This changes both the normal human perceptions of the person being augmented, as well as that persons perceptions of those around him... often seeing themselves as superior to their wholly flesh counterparts... in addition, The neural stimulation required to operate the implanted cybernetics can lead to an overload in the persons nervous system... these things in conjunction with each other, can become a serious problem as more and more cybernetics are added... eventually culminating in a overstimulation leading to a highly confused and aggressive state known as Cyberpsychosis. During this state the subject will lash out violently and blindly, unable to tell friend from foe... the incredibly dangerous individuals have often had such extensive cybernetic replacement and augmentation that the only way to bring them down is through heavy firepower, very rarely does C-Swat even attempt to bring in a rampaging Cyberpsycho alive...

Cyberware - Cyber, Bionics, augmentative prosthetics; Cyberware primarily consists of mechanical limbs and organs. The term also refers to any upgrades or options added to these limbs or organs, as well an completely new implants and mechanical/electronic augmentations that can be permanently attached to a persons body. In Cyberpunk 2020 everything but the brain and spinal cord can be replaced. Prominent Cybernetic Corporations include Dynalar, Kiroshi Optics, Raven MicroCybernetics, Sycust, International Electronics Corp, Arasaka, Militech, Psiberstuff, Bodyweight, T-Maxx, Zetatech and others....

Edgreunners - These are the specialists and experts who work at the edge of society. They are the hitmen and hired guns, hackers, black market dealers, smugglers, back alley doctors, revolutionaries, corporate talent scouts, getaway drivers, rogue journalists, and even law enforcement trying to bring the rest down.... in other words, your character and most of the people he interacts with.

Militech - Militech is an American arms and security Megacorporation equivalent to Arasaka, though they do no have the additional resources provided by Arasaka's subsidiaries.

I will add to this list as it becomes necessary....

You forgot "choomba," chombatta. =p

There's a couple of sites online that compile various 2020 slang. Might be a bit more expedient to link peeps to said sites.

I did link to those sites in the Online Resources thread in the RPG section, but it's disappeared. Putting this here means one less link for people to click on, choomba.

Add Eurodollar or eurobuck, denoted as "eb" the currency of 2020.

And Luddite, of course.

and Technoshock.- that one is kind of important.

Also LeDiv might be good as well as the UCJC - the civilian version of the draconian miitary code now in use in 2020.

Ripperdoc...where did I put that link of all these terms anyway?
