By "2020" I mean the original setting of the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020 and definitely not our 2020. I think it would be a good excuse to have lower tech weapons (closer to present day) and gear. We'd see weapons more stereotypical of 80s action movies like UZI's or MAC-10s. Instead of cyber implants we'd be relying on "Decks" for hacking.
I imagine Night City would look more grittier and less glitzy at this time. Less Blade Runner and more "Near Future" Detroit from Robocop 2.
It could involve quests leading up to or taking place at the start of the Fourth Corporate War.
