Thanks for the advice, I did as you instructed and it does seem more stable now. That said, it is still crashing, it is just not every 5 mins. Seconding what another poster said, it seems to be something to do with being in a mission, albeit not every mission just occasional.

well, you have to be positive. there are people, like me, who's continuous playtime maxes out at 5 minutes.
sorry for the sarcasm...

Today it just terrible. I can't start the game. It crashes PC wile in Game Load Screen. Also the Character screens were crashing after 15 sec use. Evan worse, I could not save the game. I expect CDPR to let me know WHAT IS POSSIBLE, if anything!

Currently, I'm unable to play for more than a few minutes before crashing. I can't even make it past the prologue. I started monitoring my GPU and CPU usage. I always get this spike in the GPU when I crash. anyone know what it might be or what is causing it ?

If you have an "Unknown GPU error" right after this spike then welcome to the club. I has the same problem with random crashes (mostly time then a open/close some interface elements in the game) and one moment my GPU fans start rising speed and then there comes a crash. Every time the same one.

Fix 1.05 was improv game stability indeed. Now this crash are comes after ~30 minutes instead of ~7 minutes on 1.04. Yet, no luck of entirely fixing it.

considering the fact that i left all of my settings on ultra / rtx on with dlss off, would underclocking the gpu (a possible fix for gpu crashes suggested by someone) matter at all, do the settings matter when loading the main menu screen (where i would be able to turn them down)
personally i think it wouldnt matter, but better safe than sorry

Crashes on startup. Haven't got to play the yet. Had the game since 1.04 and was hoping 1.05 fixed the issue but it did not.

Specs:
Windows 10 Pro (updated)
Ryzen 5 2600
RX 580 4gb
16gb ddr4 memory

Error reason: Unhandled exception
Expression: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005)

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING :
I don't take responsibility if you lose your save or something

I had the same. Instant crash on startup after 1.05 patch. Before everything works fine ( except many bnugs of course).
I tried to:
- reinstall game (all patches 1.03, 1.04, 1.05)
-install/uninstall windows update (KB4592438)
-uninstall/reinstall/clean install Nvidia drivers
but still nothing.
BUT...

I deleted folder C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077 and updated game to 1.05

And now everything works fine! I hope I hope it helps someone too :)

You have the WORLD RECORD. It really made the biggest difference so far. Load/Save works, as well as the Character thing. I'll keep playing to see more. Thank you!

Hey guys, I've read a lot of users getting all kinds of crashes, but haven't seen anyone come across the specific crash I'm getting: as soon as I first wake up in V's apartment (early in the game, practically at the start) I walk a few steps and boom: 1 sec freeze, then Windows BSOD for 'WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR', then instant restart (I'm not allowed to do anything). It's almost a reproducible crash.

I thought underclocking my card fixed the issue, but that doesn't work anymore (at least, after 1.05 patch). Only piece of software that makes my computer crash at all. I tested my 3080 on Furmark, core overclocked to 2020 MHz (+100), and +200 on memories. Super stable.

Full specs:
i7-8700k (stock) - Kraken x62
16 GB RAM
EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra
Thermaltake 750 W +80 Bronze PSU
Windows 10 (up to date)
Drivers up to date
Steam platform

Anyone else getting this BSOD?

Unfortunately the shit came back with a splash! After playing for a few minutes I tried the Character to change an attribute. My PC crashed as before, so that hardware reboot was needed.

So....I maybe finally did it.

Its strange, but I was able to play game only without RT and DLSS.
But I tried:
Lowering mem freq - no effect
Loweting gpu boost - no effect
Turning off AMD CPU PBO - and voila

I was also able to crank up gpu and even overclock it. All stable.
I dont know how, why...but this was first time I could play with RT and DLSS all ultra sky high.

Ok, this worked very well for me.

My Rig
Ryzen 7 3700X - default freq
Asus RTX 2060 - default freq
32 GB RAM DDR4
SSD
WIN 10 20H2, fully patched

From patch 1.05, game was unplayable: every 1/2 mins in game, I was out on my desktop, with the same GPU error of all of you.

I made a clean install of WIN10, reinstall the whole game, clean the C++ redistributable, fixed the AMD SMT with the new hexedit code, and so on.

Nothing changes.

But when I erase that AppData folder, BAM, I was in, with a stable game.

So I made another test: I close the game, waiting the appdata folders appears with the new config files and restart the game from Steam.
1 min ingame and I had a crash.

Erase the folder, relaunch the game, and 45 mins without a crash.

I know, it's annoying, but if this "trick" continue to work, I'll continue to use it until a patch that can fix all of this things.

I hope it will help you guys :)

I’m currently trying to complete the side job called “Holdin’ On” and I’m supposed to find Kerry in his villa. I’m in his villa and I can’t find him. I can’t really do anything except run around the house. I’ve killed all the robots outside to see if that changed anything and it didn’t.

I reloaded to game to try to fix it, nope. I even went and did other side jobs in the meantime and came back, still not continuing the quest. Am I missing something? Johnny commented on the spray paint that’s on Kerry’s outer wall, and said something when I called from the gate, but nothing since then.

What should I do?

It might have something to do with DS4Windows. If you're using DS4Windows to play with a controller on your PC, try to play the game without it. I purchased on GOG and use a PS4 controller with DS4Windows, and the game crashes with this error 5-10 minutes into every session. I don't know if you can play with a controller on GOG without using DS4, but on Steam you can, so I added Cyberpunk as a non-Steam game to my Steam library and launched it from there without DS4, and it fixed the issue. This is the only fix that has worked for me, and I've tried verifying the game files, reinstalling the game, reinstalling drivers, updating Windows, disabling the overlay, and reducing overclocks, none of which made any difference.

Thank you!
I think that is my problem, for now 30 mins no crash
(i have deleted only the file inside C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077\cache).
I think the problem is when we change the settings, UserSettings.json save that current settings but inside to the folder cache remain on previous settings, so the game cause gpu crash.

I have the same exact issue as the 3 of you. Difference is where I crash. My crash happens in 2 areas. The first is about 10 seconds into the intro movie, the second is at the start of each lifepath prologue whenever the first conversation choice comes up.

I have tested a metric ton(10 hours on record(steam) trying to get it to run longer than a minute) and accumulated about 10gb worth of crash reports which I'm pretty sure CDPR is no longer reading since it's all the exact same thing. I'm sure it isn't my hardware because I have tested 2 nvidia graphic cards as well as switched out the PSU and mem sticks. The more likely culprits are the Nvidia drivers as well as how the game interacts it.

I found a way that is relatively stable and has enabled me to play 4 hours straight(from the start of the prologue). However, you are going to have to make a lot of sacrifices.

Here's what I did to get it running:
First set my monitor refresh rate to 120hz, resolution to 1080p

Then I set the game resolution to 1280 x 720(any higher and there is a high chance of crashing), full screen. I also turned on vsync and set it to half, which is 60(120/2). "Maximum FPS" has to be set at 60 as well. Any higher than 60 increases the chance of it heading to crashville. Setting the monitor refresh rate to 60 directly doesn't seem to help it, it has to be half(ie 120/2) vsync for some reason.

As for the graphic settings, I set it to ultra preset(RTX and DLSS BOTH OFF) and changed the following:
Film grain all the way to motion blur : All OFF

Cascaded shadows range and resolution: LOW

Volumetric fog resolution: LOW

Volumetric cloud quality: LOW

Mirror quality: Preferably medium - this thing sends our GPU into overdrive. You can leave on high but there is a higher risk of crashing if you use a mirror. Medium is still somewhat sustainable.

I know its not pretty but that's the only way I can play without crashing. If you are willing, give it a try and it may just help you.

If all else fails, switch to a AMD card if you can get your hands on one. The overwhelming majority of people having issues in this thread have Nvidia gpus. I tested it on a 5700xt that I borrowed from a friend and was able to get it working at 1080p without needing to mess with refresh rates, vysnc, fps limit or any other stuff. An absolutely ironic joke considering that CDPR and Nvidia worked on this game together.

My specs:
R9 3900X
3080(No overclock)
16 gb ram @ 3200
850w gold 80 plus PSU
970 Evo ssd
