So I preloaded my game via Steam... and waited until 2am (local time) to start my dystopian adventure in night city. Upon being able to hit the play button after the countdown, it forced a 10 GB update... which wiped some crash reporter file in the Steam folder, which prompted a re-installation of Steam and a 8 hour re-download of Cyberpunk starting at 4 am. I can forgive this. Nudity, violence and adulterated fun is worth the hassle.
So 11 hours after launch (despite work and study obligations), I finally got to click the play button. Boom. Whoa! Cyberpunk 2077 has flatlined
This reminds me of my first day experiences of a certain Bioware game's launch a few years back.... spaceships, intergalactic conspiracies, meeting new and exotic life on distant planets then killing them, saving the day and banging aliens... you know the one. So I began my routine of troubleshooting:
1) Updated Nvidia drivers
2) Disabled Steam (and other) ingame overlays
3) Disabled Bitdefender
4) Free up more disc space
5) Disabled any non core processes that chow system resources
This got me past launching the game from the launcher into the actual main menu without getting this error. Decided to bottom out all graphics settings just in case. The menu music sending chills down my spine, to such an extent that my children will be born shivering. Spent the last 30 mins in the character creator (my thoughts about the abundance of jaw structure / eyes / hair / mouth options while limiting my chest & pubic hair styles or customization options for genitals not associated with the Y chromosome - or the complete lack of options for muscle tone / ass size aside) to my hearts content... but upon hitting the confirm appearance button. Boom.
Whoa! Cyberpunk 2077 has flatlined
Again....
Decided to check the forums to see if I am special or if this is a more pervasive problem.
Having seen this topic, I'm convinced that CD ProjektRed has surpassed what Bioware tried to achieve with Mass Effect Andromeda or Rocksteady's Batman Arkham Knight at their respective launches... potentially created one of the best game(s) of the last 3 years, while delivering a launch worthy of the worst gaming experience of my life award.
Maybe that's a bit harsh. Cyberpunk (from what I've seen thus far) is nowhere near as bad as the Batman: Arkham Knight launch back in 2015.... but at least I could play that at 640x480 resolution (by forcing the game to render in that age old resolution with kernel config files) while Rocksteady spent a year fixing the bugs to make it playable for PC...
