Game crashing on old CPUs: possible fix

If you happen to have an old CPU you maybe having this crash:

Expression: EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION (0xC000001D)

The game is trying to use a feature you don’t have: AVX.

At the beginning playing corpo when you sit it crashes. A possible temporal solution while they fix this issue is to remove this part of code:

Edit Cyberpunk2077.exe with a hexadecimal editor and search for

554881ECA00000000F2970E8

Change the first byte to C3 (return from the function):

C34881ECA00000000F2970E8

Please note this fix is extremely simplistic and naïve. Moreover, it could crash the game later. This change seems to fix this crash and you can continue playing the game. I have only tested a few minutes more.

FAQ: Why are they using AVX?

They are not doing it on purpose, it is probably the default configuration of the compiler.

Holy sh*t you are the best my friend. Not a single crash in almost 4h of gameplay. Thank you.

PC player as well, no issues here on the old MSI GTX 1080. Some frame dips on ultra 4k but once I lowered the specs a bit it's been smooth sailing. Ensure windows is updated as well just to be on the safe side.

So I've seen a couple other people with the same issue as me.
Can start the game, create character but after that it crashes, same place every time.
Corpo path; when V pukes in the sink and when the call comes it crashes.
Flatline error message
e:\r6.patch0hotfix2\dev\src\common\gpuapi\src\dx12\gpuapidx12error.cpp(40)
Nvidia driver 460.79 crashed

Reinstalled the game
Verified game files
Clean install of drivers
Tried different graphics options
Some people suggested slow HDD mode but that didn't help (game is on SSD)
Disabled all overlays
Deleted the folder in Appdata which helped someone above

Still crashes at the same point.

AVX download file still doesn't work for me. I have somehow managed to get past prologue but now my game crashes at Lizzie's bar all the time.

Plenty of us are impacted by this - game just does not launch - no fixes yet.

Ye I've seen lots of people either with gpu errors or EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION but I think I only saw 1 other person with the same error.

This is an AVX issue where older CPU's simply do not have, a fix at the moment to get past this is to use a hexadecimal editor to edit Cyberpunk2077.exe

search for 554881ECA00000000F2970E8 and change the first byte to C3 save and reload the game.

essentially change the 55 to C3 so it looks like this C34881ECA00000000F2970E8

Thanks, this worked for me ^.^

Disable Raytracing, game worked fine for me after that.

Problem was that yesterday they merged threads of different PC crashes - so far there looks to a couple:

1. People can load into the game but at a certain point it crashes - there looks to be a workaround for this now (AVX)
2. The game just does not launch - you just get the flatline message - no solution to this as yet

My graphics card does not support raytracing and thus it is off by default.

In my case I'm having a lot of crashes when I try to run the game. After the CD Projekt logo, the game usually crashes.

The only thing that allows me to play, like if this game wasn't broke, it is the step 4 in here (w10 clean boot mode launch):
support.cdprojektred.com

The game is not launching — Cyberpunk 2077 | Technical Support — CD PROJEKT RED

Welcome to CD PROJEKT RED Technical Support! Here you will find help regarding our games and services, as well as answers to frequently asked questions.
support.cdprojektred.com support.cdprojektred.com

Here also I left the link to w10 support to do a clean boot mode:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

I hope this help someome like It helped to me :)

I went through all of the troubleshooting steps and nothing worked. I reinstalled windows and it worked beautifully. left it on lowest graphics and it runs great. 1060, ryzen 5 2600. I didn't even have to reinstall the game after I reinstalled windows, I just moved it from my D drive to my C drive in gog folder and launched it from the exe. Rough start for sure but I'm very satisfied now. Best of luck everyone

my error message looks like this;

Error reason: Assert
Expression: <Unknown>
Message: Gpu Crash for unknown reasons! Callstack here is probably irrelevant. Check if Breadcrumbs or Aftermath logged anything useful.
File: e:\r6.patch0hotfix2\dev\src\common\gpuapi\src\dx12\gpuapidx12error.cpp(40)

any idea what might fix this problem?

my specs:
gtx 1080 ti, 11gb vram
i7-8700k
16gb ram
windows 10 64bit.

i have already installed the newest graphics drivers and tried to reinstall them, checked that my windows is up to date, reinstalled the game, turned off overlays, verified the integrity of game files, launched the game as an administrator straight from the game files, disabled full-screen optimizations and changed the high DPI settings and installed newest Microsoft visual c++ files, but nothing seems to fix the problem, the game keeps crashing in character creation after 1-2 min.
