Got the same issue with the nomad. But i tried it on my brother's pc and it runs fine. Copied the save back to my pc after the rescue mission and it loaded up fine...until i sat in the car, then hung up then crashed. So i tried corporate and it worked... until i sat down. So the issue is with sitting. Weird. Just downloaded the hotfix, but its still happening.

My brother has an amd processor and gtx 1080, while i have nvidia and a 1070. I've tried all the tricks others have tried, and still nothing.

OK GUYS, here's my story

After 2 days with the "press play and flatlined" without NEVER seeing even the CDPR logo, I tried EVERY SINGLE METHOD posted here, including the 1.04 patch... all updated and stuff... i decided as a last resort to use my double boot and install the game under Windows 7 with DirectX11

Of course SAME HARDWARE and DRIVERS

And BOOM, it works. No issues. Of course I don't know if it will crash or not during the game BUT I finally managed to get past the LOGO.

My stuff

i5 6600K @4.2 Ghz
RTX 2070
16 GB ram
Win 10 20H2 and DX12 (NOT WORKING)
Win 7 Ultimate and DX11 (WORKS LIKE A CHARM)

So I can second the guy up here who says it's probably DX12 related on some machines

Best of luck to all of you.

ATTN ALL WHO ARE CRASHING WHEN PRESSING PLAY
After spending 12+ hours exhausting all options regarding the crashing when pressing play (I had never even seen the loading screen) I've found the culprit.

The issue lies with windows 10(kinda, also CDPR is at fault here) and the way the game is implementing DirectX . I just did a fresh install of windows 10 version 10.0.19042 build 19042 (also known as version 20H2/2009)
and I was able to run the game at startup no issues.

This was my last resort, I updated drivers, disabled overlays, used DDU to do a complete reinstall of drivers, did a clean boot, literally everything I could. But this is what finally fixed it for me. It's kind of an extreme solution to play a game, but if you are truly interested in playing, be sure to either update windows or download this windows version, install on a USB and do a fresh windows install. It's 100% a directx12 implementation issue. For those wondering, my crash report in the stacktrace.txt before was as follows:

Message: Gpu Crash for unknown reasons! Callstack here is probably irrelevant. Check if Breadcrumbs or Aftermath logged anything useful. File: e:\r6.patch0hotfix2\dev\src\common\gpuapi\src\dx12\gpuapidx12error.cpp(40)

Good luck to everyone, my watch is over.

Funny, I get the same error message on Windows 7. So it's not just Windows 10 issue.

For anyone using the 1.04 Mod...

From what I saw with the 1.03 Mod, it is somewhat compatible with Steam (there have been claims that it was not)... or at least Steam is updating my playtime and giving me playing cards - whatever those are - when using the mod file. I haven't received any accomplishments yet, but perhaps I just haven't gotten far enough in the game to get any.

Anywho, what I'm doing is hitting Play in Steam - but when the 2077 launch window pops up (with the pay button there), I don't hit play. Instead, I navigate to the 2077 folder with the mod file in it and launch the mod file there.

Like I say, it seems to be at least halfway working with Steam - but I won't know for sure unless an accomplishment finally pops in (or not).

Maybe some others can confirm.

Oh well - anywho, good luck and have fun!

(DISCLAIMER: I have never used mods in games before - finally just got frustrated and disparate on this one)

Dude, just edit the exe file so you can play without doing janky save swaps and crashing all the time lol

Still getting crashes with:

Error reason: Assert
Expression: <Unknown>
Message: Gpu Crash for unknown reasons! Callstack here is probably irrelevant. Check if Breadcrumbs or Aftermath logged anything useful.
File: e:\r6.patch0hotfix2\dev\src\common\gpuapi\src\dx12\gpuapidx12error.cpp(40)

on
3090 RTX EVGA FTW3
3950x AMD Ryzen
128 GB of ram
m2 SSD

... any new ideas of how to fix it? I've gone through multiple full reinstalls of drivers and game now. Tried booting from the exe, tried the CPU fix (just in case), tried disabling overlays.

Well very interesting....have been playing for 8 hours total and not one single crash. Then just now the game crashed. Ok no prob....then it installed the patch 1.04 and now? CONSTANTLY CRASHING! FUCK ME.
Tried to restart the pc and "repair" the game via GOG. Not working so far...
Its crashing right after I press spacebar after the loading is done. No error message.

I was getting strange crashing loops, I had to reinstall the newest Nvidia drivers every time it happened. Maybe try that. ( This was apart from the AVX crash/fix)

Yes, I got a TON of these flatline crashes on one particular save as Nomad. I needed to sneak around some enemies and every time I got close to them the game crashed. Haha, one time a graphical glitch occurred before the crash and the enemy looked like he had beams shooting out of him!

Same issue, but only started as street kit sofar.

For AVX crashes.
Futher down in the thread is this fix which appears to be working. On nexusmods is also an edited version of the cyberpunk.exe which is basicly the same thing.

just wanted to confirm that the 1.04 hotfix did NOT fix the older CPU AVX Compiler setting issue.

Crashes seem to consistently occur at:
(nomad) loading into actual night city after the garage scene and the official game intro. You see a single frame of being in the car.
(streetkid) when exiting the bars second door into i imagine the alleyway (never see it though)
(corpo) sitting down on the chair in the office.

no changes to any gfx setting or any of the troubleshooting affect this as its a compiler request to use a cpu feature that doesnt exist on older CPUs. was mentioned earlier you can 'hack' the game using a hex editor of some form to work but could become unstable later on.

Do i really need to be Stanley from Swordfish and have to literally hack my way through the storyline?

Patch 1.04: Windows 10, version 20H2, RTX 2070 SUPER, Driver 460.79, AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 6-core, 32 GB RAM, 2560 x 1440

Random crashes, seems worse since first BD sequence , after BD tutorial in Corpo path. From going 30-40 min it crashes more frequently. Overlay disabled in Steam, RT disabled, Cascading Shadows (for FPS), no difference. Trying the cache file in AppLocal folder to rebuild, even tried replacing the .exe with no luck. Closed all possible programs and also validated local game files in Steam. Reinstalled as well.

Any idea if there will be another fix soon or anything else I could try? Many thanks - I am really gutted. Was looking forward.

a lot of surfing on the Internet suggests that ONLY RTX series cardholders have no problems. In any other case, you get a crash sooner or later. Plus you get excessive RAM consumption from .exe This will probably never be fixed, or it will take another 8 years of development. Lol Anyway, think about look at what you are fighting for: The game world is empty and dead, linear tasks are stupid, not logical and incoherent. The characters are not memorable and have no history, there is nothing that could generate interest in the game. For those who, like CDPR, do not understand the meaning of the word "variability", I will explain - these are not 130 different pistols, pants and upgrades. Variability is 3 or more key differences in each branch of the passage, the decisions made in the dialogues should globally change the final result. There is nothing like this in cyberpunk 2077 and the gameplay is practically no different from a visual novel, where 2 dialogues lead to an identical result. This is a very, very bad game from stupid and inept developers. Many online publications have already awarded Cyberpunk 2077 the title of the game of the year. But think for a minute and you will understand that the title of "the biggest degradation of the decade" is more appropriate. This is obvious, given that The Witcher turned out to be a very good game, and now in cyberpunk we see a boring world, a lack of plot and a critical mass of programming errors. CDPR is not better than EA, Ubisoft, and other similar degradants.

Reinstalled the driver and it worked. But the game looked like shit, pixelated and stuff. Went back to desktop back in and now the loading crash is back. Fantastic now its finally 100% unplayable for me, a shame :( A fantastic game otherwise.
Maybe I will reinstall the game next...

FAQ: Why are they using AVX?
Because it AVX works better than SEE-like instruction sets.

If your CPU doesn't support AVX, play a different game, not this generation's Crysis.

Playing games on a Celeron is like playing Doom on a Refrigerator. Just because you can, doesn't mean you shouldn't.
