Yeah feels like a driver issue to me, but the weird thing is we have 2 PC's identical specs apart from the factory OC on the 3080 - my EVGA 3080 is running no problems, my partners MSI 3080 SUPRIM has all these crashes (unable to play).Constant random crashes for me, sometimes I can play for 30 minutes, sometimes for 5. Here's my specs:
Here are the things I've tried to fix it:
- Ryzen 5950x
- Asus Crosshair Dark Hero x570
- Corsair 128gb 3200
- Palit 3090 Gaming Pro (factory OC, but have tried underclocking it...no difference)
- Windows 10 latest updates
- Latest Nvidia driver
Nothing seems to make a difference so far.
- Disable RTX
- Disable DLSS
- Run at 4k/1440/1080
- Graphics on minimum
- Graphics on maximum
- Unplug controller
- Run in safe mode
- DDU and reinstall drivers in safe mode
- Verify game files
Looking in event viewer whenever I get a crash I see "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
So maybe a driver issue? Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can comment...
HOPEFULLY CDPRed are speaking to Nvidia around this issue. Might need changes on both the game and drivers for us unlucky few. Nvidia have released optional hotfixes in the past to address issues like this.so u have to wait until nvidia fix it?
I played almost 7h (so far) with updated exe (I updated it myself, didn't take the one from Nexus) : No problem.Hello All!
Am I to ban from Steam, if I replace original cyberpunk 2077.exe file to the Nexus version ? I have avx problem too (with Intel Xeon E5640 CPU)...
Thank you for your reaply!
Papa
After altering the exe, I was able to play without crashing. I just notice some times when performance bottoms out. I am suspecting there are a lot of optimizations left to take care of.I played almost 7h (so far) with updated exe (I updated it myself, didn't take the one from Nexus) : No problem.
Honestly, I don't think they will start banning people for that, this would create an even bigger shitstorm (for Steam, but also for CDPR). And it's not a cheat or a hack to remove any protection, it's just a change to allow people to play the game they paid for...
issue is also happing on my AMD video card aswell, cant get pass the tutorial on any characterso u have to wait until nvidia fix it?
If you're talking about the constant crashing during very specific points at the end of the prologues, that's the game trying to use AVX. I got an answer on my support ticket yesterday and they said they're looking into it, hopefully it'll come next patch! Many people bought the game but cannot get pass the tutorial... game crashes right after
feels like we bought a demo copy...
we're super excited but cant play itfeels like torture tbh
Please pass this along to have it fixed a we're super disappointed

This is what frustrates me the most. My system is extremely stable and I have had no major issues running ANY game to date. New releases, old releases, whatever, my crashes are few and far between. Yet I can't get out of the prologue in Cyberpunk.Nothing is overclocked, not even the GPU. I believe the issue lies somewhere between the game and the drivers as I absolutely do not experience any issues with other games. RDR2 ultra? No issues. AC valhalla ultra? No issues.
I have officially hit the 3 hour mark on steam trying to get this game running. I have yet to even start playing the game...Yes, 3 hours of nothing but fiddling with settings and crashing. Words cannot even begin to describe the disappointment I'm feeling right now.
I have tried nearly everything(yes, I actually went through 70+ pages because I'm desperate) suggested in this thread except reformating my drive and reinstalling my OS. I'm not about to reinstall my entire OS just for the sake of one game. What sort of game requires one to reformat their drive and reinstall the damn OS?
Let me break down the issue I'm experiencing:
My screen suddenly turns blank after some time.
One such instance is whenever I try to watch the intro movie. It plays until halfway through(around the part about hackers turning off the power) then my screen turns blank.
Another instance is about 10 seconds after starting any of the lifepaths. For example, whenever I start(the scene with v vomiting in the bathroom) with corpo, my screen always turns blank when the 1st conversation choice comes up.
In all instances, a look at my windows event viewer reviewed that the issue seems to lie with the Nvidia drivers. That is to say, the drivers are crashing during the game and unable to recover. The driver crash also results in multiple instances of the windows process, dwm.exe, crashing as well. As such, I could only hard reset my system each time it occurred. I'm using the latest drivers(460.79) for cyberpunk and I used DDU to do a clean install.
I have been able to figure out a workaround for the intro movie by turning on vsync and frame limit and setting both to 60. That enabled me to watch it the whole way through. However, it does nothing when trying to play the game itself. I even tried setting everything to the lowest but to no avail.
My specs are:
R9 3900X(bios updated)
RTX 3080
16GB ram @ 3200mhz
850W 80+ gold psu
Windows 10(updated to latest version 20H2)
970 evo m2 ssd
Nothing is overclocked, not even the GPU. I believe the issue lies somewhere between the game and the drivers as I absolutely do not experience any issues with other games. RDR2 ultra? No issues. AC valhalla ultra? No issues.
I emphasize again, mine is not a typical game crash(ie flatlined). My issue is with the game crashing the gpu driver and the driver in turn unable to recover. It also results in the dwm.exe process crashing.
I have tried all I reasonably could. How did this game pass QA in the first place?
Wow man!! Appreciate your efforts..Bro here I just did it for everyone. https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/73/
Not at all.
Could try downclocking your GPU \ CPU or memory, worked for me downclocking the GPU (-10%) but more testing ongoing. This is what frustrates me the most. Yet I can't get out of the prologue in Cyberpunk.
