Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm sorry, but I absolutely despise windows 10 for multitude of reasons that I'm not gonna get into here because it's not the time nor the place. My main point is this: I do not want to be forced to "upgrade" a perfectly working system which I've had for several years by a video game. End of story. And it's not like win7 is outdated, Microsoft's support for it only just ended in January this year (2020). Besides, "upgrading" to win10 doesn't even guarantee that I won't encounter a number of various other in-game bugs and crashes that people are reporting all over the internet.
I've already refunded the game on steam and will come back to it in about a year or so once it's stable and working properly. I'm very patient like that, and if CDPR was smart, they would be too, crybaby fans be damned. It would have been better to push back a year and deliver an absolute masterpiece which lives up to the insane hype this game has built up, rather than release it in this state. It is uncertain what consequences this will have on the company in the long run, but it's not looking good...
Understandable. Believe me, given my experience "updating" Windows since the 1980's, I was not cool with having to finally let go of Windows 7, which I know and love.
But there are 3 things here that create an inescapable reality for many people:
1.)
Windows 7 does have DirectX 12 support -- but it is only available through Windows Update. If there is ANY issue with that, users are up the creek. There is no support for Windows 7 offered any more. You'll have to figure out the problem and solution on your own. Given how Windows Updates work, the only, viable solution would be to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows 7 clean. So...you're installing a "new" OS anyway in the
hopes that whatever Windows Updates you ultimately receive contain the correct DX12 code to run the game.
2.)
Windows 10 is now the defacto Windows system on the present market. Love it or hate it, this is where the future of all Windows development (gaming or otherwise) will be focused. Will there be purists that keep 7 alive? Yup. But there are still people that are keeping WinXP alive, too. And, let's be real: it's not really a serious consideration for gaming. Windows 7 is going to follow in a year or so.
3.)
New games will usually work best on the latest OS. This isn't really news or anything. It's always been this way, since DOS. So, if one doesn't embrace the new tech, one will eventually be left cobbling scraps together to get by.
That was my final decision. I worked on my Windows 7 installation -- believe me. I spent about 2 days trying everything I could think of to repair / refresh my updates and resolve the DX12 issue -- but whatever had happened to my installation over time was simply not cooperating. And Microsoft is
completely done supporting it. There's not even an option to ask for
an option to ask for help. They're driving Win10 like racing chariot.
And that was the final straw for me. I hung on to Win7 (VERY successfully!) from 2015 until a day ago. But the proof is right there in bright yellow. CP2077 is going to be one of the last, major titles to offer any level of support for Win7. If you don't switch now, you're just going to have even less of a choice later. Time has come.
Plus -- the game runs
beautifully on Win10! I'm talking
elegantly. Night and day difference, and my Win7 performance was not actually "bad" (aside from the obsessive crashing). And, if you have a valid Win7 license,
the upgrade costs you nothing but time.
