Indeed, point is if the focus of your game is single player story telling I cannot help but feel like MP should be an afterthought and not a new focus to add to the main one and from what I understand that is what is happening to Cyberpunk, MP will be there but it will not detract the SP part of the game or render it less meaningful (like other games did)

A freelance illustrator's submission for CP 2077. Apparently CDPR never got back to him based on what he says on his Deviant Art page.
I love his work.

Ya sure that's for CDPR? I hate it when clients don't call back or anything that sucks.

His work is awesome, but I don't see it as fitting into CDPR's aesthetic of cyberpunk. But what do I know.

In the blurb it's only said concept arts for a possible cp rpg, CP77 and CDPR are never mentioned. Why do you say?
Later on, in one of his comment, he says he weren't hired because the studio needed a cheper professionist. I don't think it's CDPR case

A shame he's not on the team. I hope CDPR isn't cutting corners on art design. I want CP 2077 to be as visually distinct as TW2.

So how does this work for artists? I got the impression, from the deviantart page, that it's like a job interview? If you're interested in working for them, you produce samples and then they pick who they want to take on?

Well, from the comments at deviantart:
"This was a test for a possible rpg game."
"I approved the test and then I talked with the art director, all was great, sounded nice people. I think that somthing didn´t like it, maybe is that I´m from other country, whatever ..."

Everything else is just speculation - without knowing the details, I don't think that it's really possible to jump to any conclusion on why he didn't make the cut.

his English makes it hard to understand what he is saying. I think he means he was commissioned this piece and if CDPR liked it then he would be commissioned more

Eh, I am sure CDPR has another Rebelka up their sleeve, I am not worried about the art direction for CP2077. Also, the TW3 artists are phenomenal, so perhaps they might work on this game as well.

He's a freelance artist so those works were in response to a job add, or he took initiative and submitted a portfolio after hearing about CP 2077. There's many reasons he could have been rejected. His natural talent clearly wasn't one of them. He did both of those pictures in a few hours each. With all due respect to the American ( former Bioware dude) they hired as character artist, this guy is way better and looks to be more versatile as well.

I dunno I think his stuff is a bit too high sci fi and not realistic and gritty cyberpunk.

I am convinced those artworks of his have a few to do with CP77, I mean directly. It is possible that it's been as someone has already said, he proposed those pictures as a presentation of his portfolio, to be shown to CDPR (?). When you want to be hired or gather a commission you always present something specifically directed to the company you wish to talk to. I.e. if you wish to work for Disney, you certainly put something cartoonish into the portfolio. I think it might be the case.
As for the reason why he got rejected, I don't know. Maybe they wanted something more characteristic and original. Cyberpunk style artworks I've seen so far are always tremendously generic, like they're picturing the same city over and over again. And punkers as well. My personal opinion of course.

eh all the good talent is bleeding out of Bioware right now. I am glad he was snatched by CDPR

"When you think about Cyberpunk you think about shooting, action, a lot of explosions."

Just the opposite, actually.
