I have a problem with this model. I would agree that there is a huge void in North America as far as wildlife goes, but to say that ALL of it was wiped out I cannot agree with. Now as far as gameplay goes in Night City - 99% of you might consider wildlife would be gone. However on a global view, I think this would be far from happening. There are species which are incredibly resilient wether they be birds, mammals, insects, sea-life, etc. I know you touch on the sickenignly disgusting water in CP2020 - however the current problem of box jellyfish won't go away...they are very resilient and are aggressively taking over areas not traditionally theirs, and they survive in polluted areas too. Same with plants, but I won't go into more detail. I will sum up by the quote from Jurassic Park... "Life finds a way", and no matter the adversity, life will find a way to survive/adapt/etc.
Well, i just resumed what's written in the books (
and mostly, what i remember lol), the world of cyberpunk is really "mega-city" oriented, since 1990, and as stated, the paper-fin Ozone layer, there were (at least in the US) a nuclear attack at the rockefeller center, a Nuclear power plant who blown up in Pittsburg, all birds are dead, acid rain, sea pollution, disease (virus, "Sida/Aids II", natural epidemy), country-side had been abandoned for large city, because of the increasing natural cataclysms (hurricane, storm, twister), and the increasing dryness over a major part of the middles states, there was also massive floods over the southern states, a lot of nasty stuff like that.
It's in the books
(and probably a lot more i forgot since the last time i read it), but it just describe what's usefull for the players.
Take the Nomads, they're a bunch of people, living on their own, outside major city, so i can assume they hunt, go fishing, etc... the usual survival stuff
Because it's clearly stated that the Nomads are the outcast of society, everyone use them for the dirty jobs who needs to be done and that's it.
(Like, in the first south american conflict, they send them to "end the war" because US hadn't enought soldiers to send there, but US army abandonned the Nomads there, they had to walk back to America, it show how much people care about them)
So the wasteland should have a few wildlife still going on,just no birds.
Keep in mind it's not Fallout, there was no apocalypse of some sort, no nuclear warfare or biochemical wars, so i doubt you'll ever meet any radscorpion or any Ghouls, it's just a fucked up world, directed by fucked up peoples, you may enter into radioactive place, eating fish from polluted water who'll makes you sick, but city are still clean and ready to eat you.
I think wild-life has adapted to it's new environement, if there are wild cats & dogs in Night City, there should be some wild boar, moose in some place, but since there is major dryness in some states, depending on where you are, you'll have more or less chance to find some i presume.
But as i said, we don't know a lot of stuff over wild-life in cyberpunk 2020, or i just didn't read the book who talk about it.
I presume there is some in the wastelands, after all the United States are a really large place, so I doubt there isn't any forest left or whatever.
All we knows is that "Mother-Nature" tooked a serious punch in the face.
