I have not played the game, but I have read some of the books. It has been a while though, I have been trying to get my hands on some of the other books out there.
I do agree that no super technology like teleporters, matter/energy converters, time machines, black hole generators..etc, Should not exist. However, everything I mentioned is stuff that either actually exist or is very close to existing. Virtual assistance already exist like siri, google now, cortana, True A.I. is probably pretty close, VR is coming out this or next year with AR following not long behind, driverless cars for mass market are probably less than 10 years away, cloning existed for years, 3d printing is out now to the public, metal 3d printing exists and just needs to go down in price, bioprinting is the new hot topic, DNA sequencing used to take months and cost hundreads of thousand dollars and now they got machines that will be hitting the market soon that can do it in hours and only costs a grand, bendable screens are coming out, drones for military and civilian use is here, artificial grown meat for food is gaining traction,
This is not including stuff we take for granted like huge flat screen (getting flatter all the time) TV, we have cell phones that have everything (communication, internet, camera, music player, translator, virtual assistant, calendar, game player..etc, access to the internet anywhere, etc. We already have a lot of futuristic stuff we take for granted.
I like Ghost in the shell, blade runner, almost human, and other movies/shows/anime like that because it seems grounded in possible scifi reality.
As for robots, I think the anime tv show ghost in the shell had pretty good robots. They were human level intelligent, but were not really smarter than humans. Some acted off and robotic, and some could fool people into thinking they were human, some had some hilarious personalities like the mini tanks.
