I really despise the idea of being tied to just one Role...

Meh, I'm okay with it. I think it would be a poor choice compared to multi-Role implementation, but I can handle it. That's probably because MY SA, Combat Sense - or Authority or Interface - all rock. And Family just doesn't.

Solo. Speedware, skinweave, ambidexterity, and two of the biggest one-hand weapons I can carry so everyone's dead before the first body hits the floor. :D

Ya....roles have always been an issue in my groups game and we have been playing together for over 15years, but then again combat /weapons are so deadly even a media can kill a solo if they are smart.

And there are a few other roles missing from the list that could easily be brought in instead.

Prowler (My personal favorite) Special: Sneak -gives a bonus to stealth skills, they are the thief types.
Assassin and Covert Specialist Special: Combat Sneak - A combination of a solo combat sense and a prowlers sneak but only half the bonus.
Spy Special: Chameleon - Can pass as other roles...(Our house version is adds to disguise and/or persuasion)
Ganger Special: Gang Rank - Lets you bring some people with you and get some things the gang has also turf and other gang knowlege

There are a variety of other role options at least skill wise but only a handful of special skills, some of course more useful than others or additions and variations of the corebook roles.

If the game has you starting out in the gutter (Which they mentioned) then you would have to bring yourself up from the street and into the role for the most part. A few of the roles i just cant see being that interesting in a videogame except if you had a group of people but that is just me.

Would it be possible to choose to be an Android? A Solo Android? Not that I would choose to be an android, then I wouldn't be able to do drugs. An android would be able to do other things though to balance it out. Unless androids can get high................

No, there are no androids in Cyberpunk 2020.

There are full body conversions, humans who have had everything up to their brains and nervous systems replaced with cybernetics, but that's as close as it gets.

What about in 2077? Surely in that timespan they would have given birth to artificial intelligence.

There is AI in CP2020 already. Serious datafortresses in major corporations and military are AI run. Lesser Dataforts have lesser AI.
And then there is the edge of Wilderspace....

Hard to say. "True" artificial humans has been more of a post-human thing, right on the edge of what Cyberpunk deals with. That being said, Blade Runner.
I'd like to see it as a plot twist, just enough to cast doubt on who is and isn't a programmed 'droid.

That will be cool to experience

Would be sick to see, I already know Fallout 4 is going to be a lot more cyberpunk. They're bringing on the androids in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Ours is in a somewhat controlled future with rogue technologies. We should have androids blur the line between human and machine.

Cop.

This is the role that, to me, is the most interesting one in most Cyberpunk related... stuff.. movies.. and such...
In fact I am sooo teasing my mind with wanting to set up either a Shadowrun or a Cyberpunk 2020 game and GM it where the players would be cops an-
Ops, goin' off a bit.

But I'd like to think that they'd probably add more customnizeable options for us to make our own classes instead of just relying on archtypes.

As for me the role that I would prefer would be the the "War correspondent" of the media subtype. It should be noted that in the PnP the media group wasn't a single role except for the war correspondent or high risk correspondent. The media team was made up of the ' on air ' talent, the solo for protection, the fixers/netrunners for fact checking and dealing with corps trying to stop said news reports, with a techie to handle equipment as well as was often the "news van" driver. The war correspondent while not built to do battle like a solo would prefer to charm his way into a hot spot then fight a group of security guards.

I'm going to wait to see what the actual stats and abilities of each role are, but for now interested in Fixer, Techie and Netrunner.

It's weird to me how many people want to play cops here.... Don't get me wrong, I love Cop campaigns, they are my favorite to run... but many of my players tend to loathe them. They wanna fight the man, not be the man.... Same reason they don't typically play corps.
