Rockerboy Music

I know there is a thread for Music, but there was a surprising lack of Rockerboy related music posted on there, and after all this is Cyber-PUNK.

Post some Punk and Rockerboy-esque music you think would fit the theme of the game :D I'm still on the search to find some music that would fit both the Cyber and Punk aspect of the genre, standby!

Personally I feel that you are taking the PUNK aspect too literally. The thing about punk for me is individuality and uniqueness, (which is kind of killed off as soon as someone starts copying what you are doing...)

Any music I have suggested in either of the two music threads would also fit in with Rockerboys, as far as I am concerned. The potential influences for Rockerboys that are listed in the 2020 core book are Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, The WHo, Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones. I really can't say that I find any of them to be particularly 'punkish'.

Taht being said, if you wanted to consider what 'punk music' would/could dhave evolved into by the year 2077 then I reccomend ditching any and all preconceptions of the genre, save for the key attributes and logic behind it;

Anti-authority
Non-conforming
Libertarian

There tends to be a lot of angst and aggression behind the music . Beyond that the instruments and sounds are of little consequence. The message is what matters, not the delivery system.

Threads merged - it's similar enough to the existing one, no need for a second thread.

Yes, totally!
(btw I'm Maelcom, I forgot my previous account's email adress so i had to make a new one...maybe a mod could send it to me via PM)

I'd say, in my mind, 2077's rockerboys would look something close to this:

Gritty outfits, and "punchy" music
For the "music" it can be anything (punk, metal, electronic, even hiphop/rap), but it has to sounds "Dirty & violent" seeing how brutal the society will evolve.

"Underground Resistance is a label for a movement. A movement that wants change by sonic revolution. We urge you to join the resistance and help us combat the mediocre audio and visual programming that is being fed to the inhabitants of Earth, this programming is stagnating the minds of the people; building a wall between races and preventing world peace. It is this wall we are going to smash. By using the untapped energy potential of sound we are going to destroy this wall much the same as certain frequencies shatter glass. Techno is a music based in experimentation; it is music for the future of the human race. Without this music there will be no peace, no love, no vision. By simply communicating through sound, techno has brought people of all different nationalities together under one roof to enjoy themselves. Isn't it obvious that music and dance are the keys to the universe? So called primitive animals and tribal humans have known this for thousands of years! We urge all brothers and sisters of the underground to create and transmit their tones and frequencies no matter how so called primitive their equipment may be. Transmit these tones and wreak havoc on the programmers!

Long live the underground...
"

By those standards, something akin to Dubstep could fit. It sounds dirty and violent and it has more 'futuristic' sounds in it. That and it isn't mainstream and I doubt it ever will be.

Yep, there are some Dustep bands who sounds pretty harsh and "punchy"

Also, probably some genre mix, like on the Bitriot records remixes compilation (the first song is a good example)
It souds really angry, mixing diverse elements to make a really raw song

or even some "brutal" industrial metal ala Cyanotic for example:

Anyways, it have to look and sound "agressive" in reaction to the world around, mostly knowing how much screwed the world would be in 2077

Dubstep is mainstream, many mainstream artists have picked up on it.. There are still some good unique pieces though. What I am posting is not dubstep.

This is erratic and it changes throughout the song. I dont really know what genre to call it, but is definitely cyberpunk especially near the end.

A lot of what's been posted has been stuff that fits within the typical 3-7 minute mark that people seem to aim for on albums, not to mention really aggressive. While I suppose that may be cyberpunkish to some, I definitely wouldn't want a soundtrack filled entirely with stuff like that because of how migraine-inducing it would end up being after awhile. In fact, I think one has to look back at a wide range of other games' soundtracks to get an idea of what works for a soundtrack and what doesn't.

My all-time favorite game soundtrack is probably Chrono Cross because of how musical it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ine3_jdQIIs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMEb6XXXi08
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt_XTmUtjmw

Obviously that wouldn't be the kind of thing that would fit 2077, but I think the idea of having an underlying musicality rather than focusing so much on percussion (that, to be honest, becomes exhausting to listen to after awhile) is a solid one. I mean, that's part of why I enjoyed Remember Me so much:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKZqlOp7fso
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHOAWapk0ps

Other examples:

Hopefully we'll get a varied soundtrack that has some subdued tracks in addition to the more heavy ones. My worry about the game is that it'll sound like a lot of the tracks in this thread and force me to play with the volume off, though.

Example of two great CP scenes (shots from second one inspired by the first one):

Two completly different takes on music. First one calm yet sublime, perfect drama builder in unequal battle. Second one is dynamic in your face tune, played while our protagonists are killing enemies with ease. What I'm trying to say is you need both aggressive and calm tunes in thoughtful proportions. No sane person would create whole ost from just aggressive or calm tunes (in movie yes, not in game). It should all depend on location and moment our hero is in.

People seriously should stop worrying, and just carry on posting suggestions.

Like mentioned a couple times before, there's no reason not to expect a proper and varied musical score (much like a film score) compromised of either entirely or mostly original compositions ranging from pure somber ambience (for those strolls through dark back alleys) to some serious hard-hitting 'fight music' when shit hits the fan.
Last time I checked, the Cyberpunk universe ain't exactly Warhammer 40K, where there is only war [and (predominantly) Death Metal].

So, where were we... ah, yes...

The 15 Dead Minutes - Children Of The 303

True, but I'd like to see an overarching musicality to even the so-called "aggressive" music. The Witcher 2's fight music, for example, got old really fast, and I could see that being a hundred times more true if it had resembled anything in this thread.

A lot of the stuff posted in here sounds like what the final battle scene in Kingdom of Heaven would be like if it were reenacted using nothing but fax machines. Very chaotic, not very memorable. Does anyone actually remember the music from that scene in The Matrix? I can guarantee you that the number of people who do pales in comparison to how many remember Clubbed to Death because of its musicality.

GitS: SAC manages to strike a balance between sounding action-y and having strong melodies, and I'd definitely like to see something unique like that brought to the world. Not just a bunch of aggressive-for-the-sake-of-being-aggressive music.

I do remember it but that's probably because i was around 11 when i watched the matrix and loved everything about it since. It's also worth ponting out a game dealing with sounds can't be that free as sound is part of level design. Not a game breaking problem but while you could see movies as music with intros, climax and endings games are a bit more decompressed than that and the same dumbing looped track playing over and over tends to be a little invasive as much as the rest of the tracks planned for different moods. Especially in stealth or action parts where sound is useful for tactics. I think the game could live without a lot of stuff while still having a cellphone radio app or something you turn on whenever you feel like to listen to something (even third party stuff maybe). Some people smoke, others blast their ears

DNB by Goldie, but it isn't crazy smooth as jazz.

Stuff that flows like water from Drexciya, all if not most of their tracks were recorded in freestyle live sessions, and no PC's were really involved in composing it.
