Dandelion: can he sing?

Julian Alfred Pankratz, viscount de Lettenhove, better known as Dandelion, is a bard, poet, professor and lecturer. He writes songs, poems and memoirs. He gives lectures in Oxenfurt Academy. Viscount is famous in the Northern Kingdoms - few other bards enjoy the same level of fame and success. Also, he is handsome, tall, lean, with blond hair and fine features - some think he has elfish ancestors.

But the main question is: how Dandelion is portrayed in-game?
Stupid, easygoing, womanizing, self-centered man - this is Dandelion we meet in games. All the praise we hear about Dandelion comes from the man himself and we don't believe him because there is no truth in his words, we don't see any confirmation in the game. He is a bard. So, by definition he at least must sing. Why we never heard him properly sing a single song in both games? The situation is even more puzzling for gamers who didn't read the books.

So, dear CDPR, please, make Dandelion sing some songs properly!

It's so good it makes me cry...

I remember Dandelion did some lines in the games and well I thought it would probably be something cringeworthy but it was pretty good.

I wouldn't call him stupid. His womanizing gets him into trouble, but there's nothing stupid about him.

I see... So it's a problem with localization. In my version his performance was much worse.

He doesn't look, sound and behave as a Dandelion portrayed in books. In books he has more class and refinement. He comes from aristocracy, after all.

But he is easygoing, womanizing, self-centered. Stupid in the sense he's naive, a somewhat childish figure, he's sort of comic relief for rather cynical and occasionally grumpy Geralt.

Although I would like to see him be the lauded and applauded bard and poet in the game.

I humbly ask CDPR, please give us the option of chopping his head off !
afterward we can rest easily with Dandelion's mouth shut forever.

The portrayal of Dandelion in the games is the Jar-Jar Binks of The Witcher.

Hey Nucta! Good to see you made it to the other side(of the forum change I mean)!

I don't know, I have read two books by Sapkowski, and I've never ever thought of Dandelion as an aristocrat. Hell, he apparently steals or bad mouth rival troubadours' work(and they aren't better, granted). Nor is he always the sharpest tool in the shed. I like Dandelion, he is a good friend of Geralt's, but he's not really listening is he? Like in Last Wish when Geralt implores him
not to open the bottle with the djinn or air elemental and to leave it alone. Geralt even tells him to run away.
But he didn't listen did he? And that got him in trouble.

Not only Geralt and Yennefer scold Dandelion for his behaviour, even Djikstra does it. He says something really funny like:

"I know you're almost forty, look almost thirty, think you're just over twenty, and act as though you are barely ten." I think 'unmitigated dunce' was used as well.

How's that for a description? ;)

But then again, I've only read two books, what do I know? :comeatmebro:(and this is me shrugging by the way)

EDIT: I actually liked Dandelion more in Witcher 1 than in 2, but that goes for Zoltan as well.

I've never been crazy about Dandelion. He needs an overhaul. He needs to be less stupid and actually sing good songs. Maybe make him an alcoholic too, that'll do the trick.

Yes, in the first books he is portrayed exactly like you describe him.
But he changes towards the end of the saga into - not saying totally different, but a more mature man. He starts writing "Half-century of poetry" - memoirs about his life and adventures with Geralt. Anyway, in the final book he witnesses Geralt's death, after deaths of all members of their company.
So, it's strange to see in-game Dandelion as he's portrayed in first parts of the saga.

There was a side mission mission in TW2 on Iorveth's path where you have to choose the proper lines to make a song and he sings it. Not quite singing in conventional sense but it's something.

Coming from the perspective of someone who hasn't read the books, I really enjoyed Dandelion as he is in the games.

Perhaps this is what they're going for? One of those characters that they took alot more liberty with because it better fit their vision for that character.

Oh okay, I guess I'll see for myself when I read the rest of the books. And once again I like Dandelion, but more in 1 than in 2 for some reason.
@Aditya_the_warrior_within
Never got around to see or hear the songwriting skills, as I chose differently, but I still remember Dandelion singing at Shani's party. ;)

easygoing, womanizing, self-centered man- this is exactly how he is portrayed in the books. He often seems stupid, although he is not.
You clearly need to focus more while reading.

He can off course. But localization of that song sometimes will be terrible. I still shivers from Witcher 1 and 2 songs russian localiztions. No rhythm, no nothing, just reading text - it was really terrible.

This one is really good and it´s not even far from the game version so devs could change it like that.
