Dark corners at screen

Dark corners at screen

So, it's my first time here on the forums.

Today I was doing the Ladies of the Wood quest when I noticed that the corners of my screen are dark. It's almost the same effect we have when using our Witcher Senses. During the day or outdoors it's almost unnoticeable, but it gets detached when I'm inside a building. I believe this is some sort of bug. This is my second playthrough and I've never saw that before.

This is really annoying and is destroying my immersion... I read about this affecting other people's game, and it appears to be an option on PC called Vignette that causes this effect to turn on/off (don't know if it's true).

Any idea about this issue?

Hope my english is understandable, not my native language.
Thanks

Are you heavily wounded? Have you taken a lot of potions? The former will give a red fog in the edges/corners, the latter a green one.

The intent is to give warning feedback that your character is at risk of harm/death from too much drugs or wounding.

Geralt is fine. Not low health or drug abuse... =)

Like I said, it looks like a photo effect over the actual game.

Here is what it looks like: https://lifecaveats.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/vignette-multiply.jpg?w=640

Sorry for not having any screenshot...

Yes, what you've described is the vignette effect. I don't know if you can turn it on/off on PS4 (PC here).

Yeah, PS4 version doesn't allow us to access this Vignette option... Well, I think this is a bug related to my witcher senses (the only thing in game that does this "dark corners" effect). Something have triggered this, don't know what. The fact is that I don't have any save file without this bug on my current playthrough, otherwise I would just load it. Sucks...

Anyone else encountered this bug?

Hmm...i am curious about that. Will try if i get home. !!! (and report back)

What you can do about it, is to make your screen border larger, from the options menu in "The Witcher 3"

I feel like it was added in the 1.08 patch on ps4, I noticed the effect as well around the corners of the screen, maybe CDPR are trying to give us a vintage cutscene effect? Who knows, but I actually don't mind the dark corners, I guess it reduces the oversaturated colour of the game.
I hope they give us an update feature of colour filters for the game, it would be awesome to play the game in the original colour pallette with the dark and gritty looking style.

Today I was able to take some screenshots... I was inside a building, 'cause like I said, it's more noticeable in there.

It's not gamebreaking, but depending on the weather and time of day, it gets super annoying (sorry, I wasn't able to replicate it 100%).

:facepalm2:

P.S.: Didn't cross my mind turning off the map too.

That's definitely the vignette post-processing "feature". So the issue is really that you can't turn it off on console?

So, maybe this "issue" is intentional... I wonder how I couldn't notice it before. Yet, it looks bad sometimes.

An update with colour filters would be awesome, indeed!

At first, I thought this was a bug, but now it's clear that this is an intentional "effect" added with 1.08.

So yes, I would like to have an option to turn it on/off.
Thanks!

Hmm, i don't see anything on your posted pictures. Who exactly is that? On the edges of the screen?

Yes... Look at the hay on the first image's bottom right for example. I've moved the camera slightly until it got covered by the "dark effect" on the second image.

Like I said, sometimes the effect can be really bad and distracting.

Imagine this:

All over the screen.

Not cool...
:bored:

Hey, I had never had this, I read your post yesterday, and I had it in the evening:geraltsad:

It happened to me at this point (Main Quest in Skellige spoilers!):

When Yen uses necromancy to interrogate Skjall, I saw the black corners appear during the cutscene. Problem is, they stayed there... Even after the bit with Ciri, even after travelling, meditating etc. Just couldn't get rid of them.
Reloading a previous save and going through it all again fixed it, though, so...

Reloading a previous save was the first thought I had... Only to found out that all my save files from this playthrough were "corrupted" by this effect. I don't know exactly when it started, but I noticed it while doing the Ladies of the Wood questline.

Hope a future patch fixes this.
:wondering:

Hello,
I have a great desire. Please fix it this problem, a vignette in the corners. It's very annoying when playing.

Some screenshot with this problem.
