And I know I'm not the only person having issues with this. Multiple people on my Counter-Strike Forums that have The Witcher 2 are having the exact problem I am right now.

That make me chuckle.

Considering this thread is share your thoughts on Dark mode difficulty, I find it hilarious that when someone mentions how hard it is, several people will pop on to say "NOES ETS NOT, DEAL VITH ET NOWS AND SHUTUP".

Peace out

It's a hard difficulty at it's meant to be.

It's not a mode designed for everyone, but for those that want a challenge.

I played it and finished the game on it. On some points it was much harder then Insane, but I believe that's due to patch changes rather then diffculty itself.

Was a very good challenge regardless.

Regardless of difficulty since it's so early in the game and supplies and enchantments are extremely limited, the dragon shouldn't be able to kill you with 1 attack.

And why shouldn't it on the hardest difficulty available? It's not like that means you're 99% going to die. It just means that you have to be careful of what you do and time your actions properly - a requirement I expect from a game that is supposed to be very difficult.

@Topic: I only arrived at the flight from the dungeon yet and the differences compared to hard didn't seem to be all that big. A bit more damage received, but not that much to call it a bigger challenge. I'm hoping for more, once I finish prologue.

I breezed thru act1 in dark mode. It does not feel more difficult than "hard", maybe in Act2.
and this act1 set is RIDICULOUSLY overpowered. I would have had the money/materials for it but decided not to. This would help on insane where dying is not an option. but the set would make dark a cakewalk.

Currently playing on Dark mode for the last two days.

Is it hard... Yes. Unbeatable... No.

I am on Chapter 3 as of this writing.

I'm loving dark mode so far, made me a more tactical player and had me utilizing features I mostly ignored before like bombs, traps and daggers. As for the first dragon encounter I just dispatched the two guards, waited 5 seconds for the dragon to stop breathing fire and moved on to the next one. Not really impossible.

I too played all my play throughs on normaland now jumping in to dark mode.Got through the prolouge relative easy.I did noticed my hexes and intimidates are not always successful which is cool actaully eneded fighting the guy on the dock so that will be intresting later in the game not knowing if its going to work.

I do anticipate a long swaering fight with the Kyran that is the one fight im not looking foward too.

I'm playing Dark Mode and I've to say that is a real challenge, but a pleasing one! Geralt was killed a lot of times, but I reload and went forward.

I came in straight from a TW1 playthrough, and died a couple of times in the Prologue because I was making silly mistakes, like using RMB instead of Q to cast signs. You die fast if you make a mistake on this mode. :)

It was the "easy" stuff where I got killed. I got through the harder parts of the prologue without any problems, probably because I was concentrating more. The shelter scene with the dragon seemed easier than before. I think it was because Geralt went where I wanted him to, and not where the targeting system thought he should go.

The Dragon does more Damage than you have total HP

LOL no s**t mate, when I started on Dark I walked on a campfire about 10 seconds after leaving the prologue tent and died right away. I would expect a dragon to do more than a CAMPFIRE.

Other than that, it doesn't really seem that difficult... Sure you have to be careful and a lot of enemies will kill you with 1-2 hits, but they are also stupid and fairly easy to kite. Any sort of multiplayer situation where people are out to kill yo ass is way harder IMO.

The new items seem stupidly overpowered to me, I crafted the first set in Chapter 1 but after testing the gear I decided not to use it... What's the point of a harder difficulty if you get super armor and life-draining weapons with it?! Also, the visual fx when you wield the weapons is retarded. :|

I will have to redo Dark mode again as it will not let me save the game.

so I am in Act2 now and harpies/bullwore/rotfiends did not put any dent into me. will see about the Draug but he was never able to kill me on hard either. I have not used any potions besides tawny/wolf and did not get any of the dark sets since they would turn dark mode into easy mode. But I like the changes they made to combat/movement besides parry which is now completely useless. Never put any point into it, I also never put any point into Position since getting hit in the back is a NO-NO, which I know since the FCR mod for TW1 :)
I even take care not to get hit even when Quen is on. and keep in mind I am playing a magician (alchemy+signs) so I am a pretty weak build at this level compared to swordsman, I can kill everything but it just takes longer. late game everything is down to 10% health before it even gets in melee range.

So I have a question now for Insane players: is insane harder than Dark ?
or is it the same without saving ?
because then I will maybe try insane next. It is still a risk even when you are an experienced TW2 player since many times after cutscenes you can get one-shotted before Geralt even draws his sword.

Dark Mode is the same as Insane in terms of difficulty, it's just that gimmick. I think Dark Mode is easier though with the items.

Though both 2.0 Dark Mode and Insane are quite a bit more difficult then pre-2.0 Insane.

To me, Dark Mode is about the same as Hard, which is to say it's still really easy. That applies whether or not I use the Dark item sets. My strategy has always been to avoid getting hit as much as possible through a combination of lots of rolling and precautionary Quen usage. In Dark it's not really any harder to avoid getting hit in this manner since there's really no noticeable AI improvement. So in the end it doesn't matter if enemies do more damage or anything; they still aren't hitting me.

What I would love is if CDProjekt decided to go through the game and actually changed the AI or balance the game in Act 2 and 3. That would have been better than Dark Mode imo. A challenging game until the end.

I'd like to mention Demon's Soul and Dark Souls since I've played a Japanese version for a while. Even at high levels you never just screw around because you can still die easy but in Witcher 2 once I get Quen 2/2 and Venting 2/2 I'm really not afraid to walk around without any potion buffs or oils.
