Dark Mode Swords Visual Effect

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to disable the visual effect of the new dark mode swords.
Its fun in the beginning but I find it really annoying after a few hours of playing, especially in
dark locations. So far I've only created the dark armor set in act I, but if this visual effect is
used on the other two sets I wont bother making them.

Hope you can help.

What visual effect are you referring to?

I'm referring to the effect that is added to the three new dark mode sword sets.
When you draw your sword the game basically becomes black and white with a little
red and higher contrast. Some deep roaring sound is added as well.
You can see it in this video:

This effect skip to 35 seconds. I would like a toggle because it gets too dark especially at night and I can barely see anything and I'd rather not turn up the brightness it ruins the look of the game.

Just came to the forum to ask this. I like the looks of dark gear but the visual and sound effect is now annoying.

Doesn't bother me. I use it for only ONE part of the game were it's actually necessary and that's in the mines at Vergen but the Dark armor well I can't really just ignore the enemies.

It seems very distracting to me and I can see it obscuring the players view of enemies as well. I was all for getting rid of the blood screen effect but after they toned that down, it doesn't bother me. Maybe they could do the same with the 'swirling darkness of evil' effect.

You get used to it quickly, and it isn't a problem in well-lit places. The only time it becomes a real nuisance is when you're somewhere dark, like the Vergen tunnels. If I'd been carrying decent alternative swords for those sections, I'd have swapped them out.

There is one time it's an advantage - it makes it easier to see the loot when you hit the medallion in places where it's usually camouflaged against the background, like the gullies outside the Kaedweni camp.

I hate this visual effect. Makes it too dark when fighting in poorly lit places. And the constant rumbling sound just makes me feel like Gearalt has an empty stomach or something.

Yep, hate this effect too.
Cat and this is rubbish.
I have stopped my second playthrough as I wanted to use the dark kit and this makes it impossible.
Cannot even find any mods to remove the silly noises and ugly effect.

Actually, one way to work around this is not to use Dark Mode swords but keep the armor. You won't drain life anymore though.
That said I stopped my second play through few days ago when I found myself arm wrestling over and over again to earn enough money for diagrams and materials to get Dark Armor in Act 2. How did they manage to bring grind in this wonderful RPG....

An official response on this would be great. It sounds like this isn't even a love it or hate it, it's a tolerate it or hate it.

I for one, think it's garbage. You have your swords out like 50% of the time in this game, if I wanted to play the the game in black and white, I'll adjust my settings.

I think it's cool the first time you see it.
But then it gets annoying.

In my opinion the effect should be on Geralt itself and not in the whole screen.
Maybe something similar to a WoW priest in ShadowForm ?

Yeah, i agree. I think it's cool at first, but after a few fights, well..

There should be an option to disable it, or even make the effect around Gerald's body only, as the friend above stated.
A cool aura around the swords would be nice too...
I hope they "fix" this soon.

Have to agree. I completely understand the effect CPD was going for, and at first it's actually fun - but the cool factor goes away very fast and after that it's just annoying to no end. I don't think they need to get rid of it entirely, but it needs to be toned down - the audio, for instance, is very bass heavy, and I constantly find myself turning down the volume so that my subwoofer doesn't rattle the pictures off my walls, and secondly the dark-mist frame effect is just too solid and thick. I hope they will adjust both the sound and visuals and just tone it down, that's all.

As for the cat potion, since it came up, the heartbeat sound drives me crazy!!!

The visual effects are totally annoing. Makes the game pretty much unplayable for me, especially in darker places like the forest, etc.

The sound effects are useless too - I have to be able to hear where the nekkers are coming from. I don't want to hear the constant growling sound of the dark swords when I fight...

Going to get rid of the swords and just keep the armor.

I hope someone makes a mod to disable these annoying effects. I really like the look of the dark swords but the annoying sound and partial blindness they cause makes them pretty irritating to use.
