DE patch and silver against humans?

I just started playing and have a couple of questions. I have 1.5 but just saw the DE patch. If I install this, will I have to restart the game?I know that the steel sword is *only* useful against humans, but is the silver sword useful against humans too? Or do I get the best effect with steel against humans? If not, I will just focus on levelling up silver.Thanks much! -Meg

when i installed the ditectors patch i didn`t have to restart gamesteel works best against humans although you can use silver but it`s not as effective
