Dead Island

So I pre-ordered Dead Island 2 days before it got released, and picked it up as fast as I could..
Been a long time since I've had such a good time in a game!!!!
Loads of people are complaining about bugs galore, I haven't encountered any gamebreaking bugs yet.. Guess I'm lucky :)

I'm in Moresby at the moment, doing side quests and getting killed by hordes of infected zombies, steamrolled by ram zombies and so on LOL ... But it's all good, can't count the number of limbs i severed over the last 3 days haha

I'm loving it (even though it's pretty hard in some of the more sticky situations)

Any of you guys playing it, and if so, what do you think of it?

What version are you playing? PC or console?

Most of the people who are complaining about bugs are either NA.US users where Steam had deployed pre-release version of the game OR they are just a bunch of users who downloaded pirated versions of the NA.US release.

Anyways, you are really pushing the bar for me yo look into the game..its up for less than $10 in my region, on one of the distributors. :)

@gregski:
I'm playing the PC version :)

@anarki_hunter:
For $10 you should buy it, it's a really cool game :D .. That's just my opinion of course ... But I think it's a great match of RPG elements and FPS games (mostly melee combat though, using homemade weapons and stuff) :)

Been playing DI for 20 in-game hours, and I'm only about 40% through the game.. I'm doing all the sidequests besides the mainquest, and there's alot of those sidequests!

I'm playing on the PC. First day it was awesome. 2nd day it was good. 3rd day it was OK. After 4 days of doing the same stuff and killing zombies without a real story I got bored.

On top of that the game is a console port and has many console elements in it. I expected less mindless action and more survival elements.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game but it's not any better than most console action games. It surely does NOT deserve paying more than 30 euros for it.

P.S. On a more on-topic note, comparing The Witcher 2 with other games that got released these days makes it even more obvious how GREAT TW2 is. I even played Space Marine. Another mindless console button-masher with combat that is similar to TW2. There is the so called "input lag" in that game too. I'm pretty sure that NOONE will mention it. And that game has only its combat system to show for compared to TW2 which has story and RPG elements. Sometimes PC gamers can be nitpicky...

@bowman:
I think there's alot of survival in Dead Island - when you encounter a thug or something, and desperately searches for a propane tank to throw at it and blow it up using a gun - that's alot of fun :D .. Also, searching for weapons when every weapon you got has been thrown at a hardcore zombie, and you gotta look for more weapons nearby - that gets pretty intense sometimes :)
But yes, you're right about it just being a zombie-smashing game without deep storylines or stuff like that - but for what it is, it does it great I think :)

Oh BTW: there's a settings file in Documents\Dead Island\ in which you can set graphics settings higher than you're able to in the game options menu - I searched the web for how to improve video settings, and found a site that listed the commands and their parameters ... It's a must to enable anisotropic filtering and vsync at the very least :D

I only play it solo - works fine for me! .. I regularly get messages on screen telling me that other players are in the same area in their games, and then I can press "J" to join them.. Never tried it, I like my games solo :D
When you start a new game, you can choose wether other people can join your game or not, just select "offline" or whatever it's called and you're good to go ;)
Some classes are easier to play with than others, I've only tried the woman using slashing weapons (Xian?) - but read some things about the character using throwing weapons, he is apparently the hardest to play with.. But I guess it's up to the person playing..
Sam B is the easiest I think, because he's a tank and uses blunt weapons..

I agree. It stroke me when I finished Deus Ex: Human Revolution last night. Experiencing its "4 different endings" made me laugh so hard.

It seems like there's alot of problems with the multiplayer part of Dead Island - lots of people complain about loosing progress because the game doesn't save properly, and almost every complaint is tied to using multiplayer features...
So if anybody goes out to buy Dead Island, I think it's safest to play singleplayer and disable all online options - just to be safe until there's a patch out :D

We all know how troublesome new games can be until they're patched - wink wink :D

Saw this over at kotaku. Having watched my brother play it on PC I can see a crap load of problems especially Vsync. Good thing I didn't buy the game. Looks like its up to the modders to fix the game.

Vsync can be enabled!?
Why should it be up to the modders to fix it .. It's been out for a few days and people already calls for a gravedigger o_O
TW2 wasn't perfect at all upon release, should modders have fixed that too?
I don't get it.. Sure it got bugs for alot of people, but they have clearly stated that they are working on patches for all platforms - if everybody demanded perfect released games, TW2 and many other games shouldn't be out yet :eek:

The game was really good and satisfying. But after the credits rolled - and after I reloaded to see different endings LoL - I deinstalled it and launched W2...AGAIN. I wasn't interested in re-playing the game to see how those few little choices changed the storyline. That's the difference and it kinda shows how great game The Witcher 2 is - just like bowman said. It makes a finishing move on a AAA critically acclaimed blockbuster like DE:HR :)

Come on, the whole story in HR was pretty "meh" and it only got worse near the end of the game. Most choices were restricted to gameplay, and that was fine, I had a blast playing it.

I have Dead Island, but I am replaying my hacked NG+ of Deus Ex first, just for fun. Then I will probably get around to playing Dead Island, it looks pretty good from what I have seen.

I think that Dead Island is one of the best games in this year so far.. the first hours i was like "ok, good, but nothing exceptional" but with the time comes more and more fun.. i was thinking that this game is just about mindless action, but wrong.. it has many horror moments, many emotional segments, deep RPG system, good graphics, many quests, open world, little details, and so on.. so yeah, for me it's one of the best games this year

I'm playing Dead Island with my GF. In coop mode it's more enjoyable than TW2. Still TW2 is better game overall (story, graphics, characters etc.), but if we are talking about pure fun then Dead Island in coop mode is best game of the 2011 for me.
