Hello

I am extremely excited to play the witcher 3 but i have a quick question. I am trying to get my computer better setup for it but my biggest issue is my gpu. I currently have a gtx 780 ti classified and based on the previous articles it wont be able to achieve what I want it to. So my question is seeing as your game supports physx how much of a change in fps will I see roughly if I purchase a dedicated physx card such as a 750ti to go with my 780ti classified? Or should I just hope that a 980 ti is released in time for the game ?

I can't see how a dedicated physx card would make that much of a difference. I tested my 770 physx setup with Batman Arkam Origins on sunday and the 770 is on 10% load doing physx calculations (that game is extremly heavy on physx), which takes around 5 to 7% load off my Titan X, that isn't a significant boost in performance i would say.
You could go with a 980 and overclock it to the max and try using the 780 for physx?

Isn't that game bugged with dedicated physx cards ? The 980 regular wouldnt be much of a upgrade. I would like to buy a titan x and I do have the money to do it but I don't want to drop 1k on a video card shortly before pascals release.

The Titan X is worth it though, will not ever again expirience VRAM-stutter again => hated that
Pascal won't come till End of this / early next year, and I don't think "980"-like pascal-cards will have any ground up on a Titan X
my opinion, no guarantees

About Batman beeing bugged with PhysX cards, I don't know actually, will test it with Metro LL in the coming days too

I am just afraid the 780ti thing might repeat over powering the titan. With 980 ti overpowering the titan x.

Can undestand that, didn't follow the Titan / 780ti thing that was going on, but the Titan X is already the full GM200 so there is no more power to get out of it, just higher clocks, which you can do with the Titan X anyways no?

Have you over yours yet ? If I get one I will be getting one of the gtx 980 hybrid cooler to put on it.

Not yet, put I changed the Cooler-Curve so it stays below 65°C at all times, it boosts to 1202mHz if it stays low enough on temps. Its loud as hell but doesn't bother me aslong as Im playing with my headset on.
Got one of the coolers laying around i had on my 980 before: Accelero Xtreme IV,
Absolut beast of an air-cooler, kept my 980 below 65°C at 40% Fanspeed at 1490mhZ boost
So I'll probably use that on my Titan if I need or want to overclock it anytime soon

Latest rumors suggest that Nvidia has cut a few shaders in the 980 ti in order to avoid that. 980 ti is said to be GM200-310 while the Titan X is GM200-400, so there is a difference although no one can tell for sure what it is.

Pascal is scheduled to get released in 2016, so it is not launching anytime soon. I personally am going to wait for the second or third generation Pascal cards, so the bugs and problems are fixed. There are always problems when a new structure is introduced, and the first people who get it are basically testing the card at their own expense.

Titan X is overpriced, and to be honest 12GB of VRAM is just a show off. 980's 4GB VRAM is not to my liking either, and I want a card with 6-8GB. 980 ti is going to have 6GB VRAM, but it is probably a little bit slower than the Titan X. I think 980 ti is going to be the best option at this point, and I am waiting for it to launch. Rumors actually has it that it launching in a few weeks time.

Also Nvidia always buffs up the next generation of cards with a new structure, but the cards never live up to the hype as far as gaming performance goes. It is no different for Pascal, and although it is going to be faster it isn't going to leave the Titan X or 980 ti in the dust. I believe a 980 ti is going to satisfy your gaming needs until the second gen of Pascal launches.

Buy sli of 970 outperforme the titan X for a lower price. Only the 980 sli is the most powerful setup atm

970 SLI is hampered by the 3.5Gb utilisation limit and the slightly increased overhead (plus higher texture and frame size requirements of 'high-end-gaming' including oversampling).

If you can fit everything inside the 3.5-3.6 Gb that "works" properly, then all will be good... if not then problems are likely.

I think it's better to have one or two high end cards than having one high end card with a weak PhysX card. Also 780 ti is still a powerful card so I say stick with it for a while and then get 980 Ti which will be a good upgrade. You can get Titan X but their price always sound bad to me. You know what happened with original Titan, first it got ruined by by it's own cheaper brother 780 Ti and then even an R9 290 started reaching close to it or in some cases surpassed it.

Well I am using 980 SLI and it's my first ever dual card setup in life but so far I am very pleased with it. No micro stutter or any other issues. The only game that didn't scaled well was Shadow of Mordor but I think that's because there is no SLI profile for that game and the only way to achieve SLI is by forcing it through Nvidia Control Panel which adversely affects performance. I just disabled SLI and the game still performed well on a single 980 with everything maxed out but your concern of vram makes sense at this point that's why I suggested you to get a 980 Ti which has 6 GB vram so in future maybe you can throw another 980 Ti and make one monster of a system. Also it is said that Dx12 will combine vram of two SLI/Crossfire cards but that depends on when games actually use that feature.

I have like a 2k budget to build a tower from scratch. What cpu/gpu combination would you guys recommend to witcher3 at ultra. I have looked for many configurations. I am leaning towards a intel i7 4790 and a single gtx 980. Would this suffice. Or am i completely off topic here on this thread.

If you're spending that kind of cash on your build, then go for an i7 for sure. The price difference is not great, but could be useful to you sooner or later.
It always comes in handy for video compression i.e. Handbrake / bd-rebuilder etc.
