I can't follow in this guy's footsteps with out waking up. Any suggestions?

You have to be very, very accurate in following him. There are traps on the ground, and you cannot see them at this time. If you hit one, you wake up.

There is no penalty other than wasted time for failing, so just be patient and careful.

It also helps to switch to "walk" rather than "run" (capslock), and walk very close behind Serrit

I am drinking a glass of scotch right now, to see if that helps. My eye-hand coordination is not what it used to be, I am an older gamer.

It usually helps me, so it's worth trying (And I'm also an older gamer. You may be surprised at the average age in these forums.:) )

The only way that I was able to complete this was to change from Controller to Keyboard control, hit caps lock, and follow closely as you said. It worked perfectly the first time. Now anyone that I meet in combat is going to pay for all the trouble that I went through. They will be richly rewarded for their insolence.

Oh dear. If you manage that section to completion, the next person you meet in combat will be
Geralt

Fortunately though, you may not go through to completion. (I didn't for several playthroughs).

Guy N'wah and dragonbird, you two need to be Moderators. You always give the right answers to me and anyone else seeking help, and I appreciate it.

Speaking about complete the way through camp in necromancer ritual: what is the complete experience in that dream ? I woke during Kadweni camp cross. I did it until a soldier take me before getting to upper camp.

Then that fag start squeezing Geralt to spit out what happened...He is aching on curiosity.

I rarely make it all the way through. There's not much more anyway. It's possible to get to where the fight with Geralt starts, if you manage to sneak past the first set of soldiers - it "jumps" again, so you don't have to do the entire sneak.

It's quite interesting to start that fight and see Geralt from the other perspective (but he doesn't fight it the way you actually did, which would have been really cool).

There are severa walkthrough on the web, one from Gamebnahsee that explain a lil how the dream part goes on. I never managed to complete it as well. It is more likely dragonbird says.
