Deus Ex movie will be a cyberpunk film, not video game film

This is a pretty silly thing to say. Those are not mutually exclusive things.

It's like if Peter Jackson had said 'Lord of the Rings is a fantasy movie, not a 'book' movie'.

Well seeing how pejorative "videogame film" sounds to US ALL... I don't think it's quite the same scenario. But they wanting "this film to be Blade Runner"... that's both kind of bold (not to say pretentious) and kind of narrowing. They should try their own thing, not limit themselves neither with formulas nor with high goals such as "being Blade Runner".

I interpreted it as meaning that it won't be telling the same story as the game. Which would make it a valid comment, just not a very clear way of saying it.

It could be referring to in-game elemets not being present. Remember the Max Payne movie and their rendition of bullet time?

It's not a video game movie, it's a cyberpunk movie,

Eidos Montreal has given us a lot of freedom in terms of story; they want this movie to be Blade Runner. We want this movie to be Blade Runner.

When people ask me if there's ever been a truly good video game movie, I always say: 'Yes, Mortal Kombat.' And they say: 'but that was 20 years ago.' And I say: 'Yeah, it was.'

To me, it's pretty clear that he's saying movies made from video games are generally crap (which they are), giving the only exception he can think of - Mortal Kombat (which I personally liked a lot) - as an example, and that Eidos and he both want the movie to be like Blade Runner; a truly great movie, set in a cyberpunk world, instead of yet another crap movie about a video game.

hopefully they' ll try to make a movie not only meant for fanboys, but cyberpunk fans

or even better, noir fans...

A Deus Ex movie should be willing to take a few risks and not be hogtied by the franchise. We're talking about two different forms of medium here.

If the movie looked anything like these two films, I'd totally be satisfied.

I frankly hope the movie rocks incredibly hard.

Because I want Wisdom to love it and hate himself at the same time for loving it.

I just hope they give roles in the movie to the "Aussie" chicks from the club. Best. Accents. Ever!
