This.
"Keanu broke the game" is a meme created in the minds of players that are in deep denial that it was their favorite game developer that goofed. It has no basis in reality.
Exactly! My husband and I have said the same. For blind loyalists, Reeves is an easy scapegoat, cause goodness forbid CDPR can do no wrong.
Back to the topic at hand.
Many people are pissed with Cyberpunk 2077. And many of those people are not happy with what little answers CDPR has given and are trying to find answers even in places no answers are to be found.
This poster comments prior to the topic rang alarm bells. Thus, I am going to deconstruct some said sentences.
" Taken from a thread where supposed CDPR developer was speaking anonymously:"
This sentence contradicts and crumbles any credibility that said article is authentic. A developer posted anonymously, yet reveled insider information which in turned reveled him/herself.
Let me clear things up to people who have no clue and/or assume they know how game companies function.
A gaming company has different departments, no different than a food, car, or clothing factory. Within these gaming departments they can be broken down into music, story, land, voice, or what-have-you. Each of these sections has a head--a developer---who leads that section. Each of these developers have a single boss--the lead developer. Yes, there are hundreds of people who work on a game, but they are
not all developers.
Thus, if you do some research, CDPR has 18 developers. Not hundreds. CDPR would not have a difficult time ferreting out the whistle blower's identity. Plus, developers are under strict contracts, whereas if he or she breaks the contract could face some serious legal issues not to mention their job. So, you really think a developer is going to risk their job, a job a lot of people would love to have, just to what? Leak some information that is largely known at this point by most people? I find such actions unlikely.
"This is still very hush hush, but I'm fed up with this s*** so I'll disclose a few details."
Still very hush hush? Huh. Yet, this person decided to share it with the world. Disclose a few details. A few means a couple. Yet a few some how translates into a damn essay. Furthermore, when said essay is broken down, its known information…. the game is buggy, content was cut, insert conspiracy theory about Reeves and other bullshit being the reason the game failed.
"CDPR hurt themselves to keep investors safe and sound. Now devs are hearing plans of a "No Man's Sky" style comeback due to late June. The first two patches should come out mid-March, despite what's been said by top execs. There will be major departures from the studio in the coming months. Dev morale is on an all time down and Sony is roasting our asses due to the gigantic volume of refund requests. There will be a meeting today with Sony execs to figure out a way to compensate players threatening with legal action. Sony Japan is specially furious.
More to come in the next couple weeks. Feels terrible, man."
Quite a bit to unpack here, so let us get started
Hold on. This section is not within the article below. Not to mention this paragraph is riddled with grammar issues. This was either made up by the user or copied and pasted from another post elsewhere. More to come? Interesting, considering the distributor of said post is long gone and the post was removed by the website. Funny, how a random poster swoops into deliver so-called news, barley seen prior and since on these forums.
Patches not coming til March? Again, interesting, considering there has already been two patches for Cyberpunk 2077. Furthermore, I find it very doubtful –given the state of the game—developers are going to wait until March to release another patch. Top executives are the reason CDPR is in this mess to start with; I doubt they will want to dictate when patches should or should not be released.
Sony is roasting CDPR. Hmm. Once again, this is suspicious. True. Sony has offered refunds and pulled the game. But Sony turns around and says there will be a meeting to figure out a way to compensate players to avoid a lawsuit? Um. Wait. What?!? Sony is offering refunds for Cyberpunk, so why would they need to find out a way to compensate players? Players can be compensated by Sony, through the option of getting a refund. As for lawsuits, who is getting what lawsuit? Sony? Cyberpunk 2077? Sony cannot be sued for Cyberpunk’s failure. Sony is simply a game distributor. They authorize if a game will be sold and played on their console. Sony has authority to decide if a game should be pulled and/or refunded. A player has no grounds to sue said distributor when said fault lies with the game creation team. That is like suing a grocery store for selling a can of spinach that had a bug in it. The store can offer you a refund, but they are not responsible for the creation of the product.
I am not going to spend my time breaking the remainder of this article because that would be time consuming. More importantly, it is clear to me this article is made-up from an incredibly angry and bored player. They want answers as to why Cyberpunk 2077 is a sodding mess, and they want answers now. However, the answers he/she seeks are either not what they want and/or nonexistent. Thus, the only thing he/she can do is cobble together their own answers in an article. And try to convince themselves these answers are the real reason Cyberpunk 2077 is a failure. Off they go to some place they can be discrete but still public to “sell it" as an official article from an anonymous developer. When gullible players eat it up, then and only then can it become real to the original author. Lies, especially the ones we tell ourselves are easier to live with then the truth.
Could any of what was said turn out to be true. Of course. There is truth within the article as it stands. As I said earlier, it is the obvious known information, the game is buggy, it will eventually be fixed, there was cut content that maybe added in later, the game was rushed and DLCs will be coming. This same old song and dance has been played numerous times with other game companies. You should not need an article or a video [made-up or not] to tell you the same repetitive answers. Even if players were offered the Holy Grail of answers, it still would not be enough, and people would continue to seek out more refusing to acknowledge the answer they want does not exist nor will it ever exist.
People need to stop believing bullshit articles, videos, or conspiracy theories such-as Reeves being the culprit behind Cyberpunk’s failure. The bottom line is: CDPR fucked up. Yes, they are in the process of fixing it. There is no more to be said. If you are seeking more, you will end up being like this poor sod of an author, spreading conspiracy theories just to make themselves feel better and refuse to acknowledge their so-call god [CDPR] are the ones responsible. People are people. Everyone fucks up. That is life. No one is perfect, not even Gods.
What is next? Aliens kidnapped the CDPR developers, and forced Bigfoot to beat them until they submitted to Mothman's demands to make Cyberpunk 2077 a shitty game???!1
