Dialog change

Anyone upset about the new paraphrase dialog system ala Mass Effect? And how about the timed response mechanic?I fear there will be fewer options and shorter dialog because of this.

Don`t know about the Mass Effect as i didn`t play it but i think as far as the timed response that it would be only be in certain situations and it may be good in a different sort of way as i have never played a game where you have a limited amount of time to make a decision . One thing is for sure when you reach that cornerstone indecision could be costly . So i guess i will wait and see what the devs have in store for us and then make a decision whether it`s better or not so much.

Yes, i am very disappointed.DA2 has just been announced and it is going in the same direction so i think we have seen the last of the old way of selecting what a character says.I think it's a turning point in time for RPG's and the old way is lost forever.

We just know a theory and saw a glimpse of this new dialogue feature. I'm sure the devs present us how it works in an extra presentation or dev diary.Do you remember the TW1 video trailer about the decision system and the delayed consequences? It was about the prisoner the Witchers kept at Kaer Morhen. Geralt had to decide whether they should kill him or let him go. This had an impact of a good friend of Geralt much later in the game. The devs explained in detail how this works. Of couse this spoiled quests wasn't in the final game ;)I'm sure we will get a similar detailed dev diary what's this new dialogue system is about.

Actually, i'm actually quite selective about what my pixel-people say in RPGs, and this trend is getting quite annoying for me. Atleast give the option to show the whole sentences.

I recently played Alpha Protocol and it had a timed response mechanic. It made the conversations feel more fluid as the NPCs didn't stand there waiting for you to choose your next phrase. The conversation just moved on very smoothly. And at times it forced the player to think swiftly since the timer was shorter when you had to make a quick decision at a critical time.

I am concerned with the voice acting. It just doesn't sound as good as in the EE, more like the original game. Triss' voice is sort of unnatural, in the enhanced edition she sounded much better. I know we've heard just a small part of the dialogues but still it is a bit..disturbing. We are talking about the sequence of the RPG of the decade, after all.

I think voice actors change until the final version of the game.

I second the whole sentences idea at least for non-timed answers. It's really nice to how exactly will u answer and I think those short answers can be misleading. Or at least I base that on E3 preview movies ,where i dont know if u have noticed but in the ''Save Dandelion'' scene they chose ''Who's going to hang?'' and Geralt actually said:''What are they going to hang for? They don't look dangerous?''. I hope that this was because it was just alpha version but still... Oh and i hope the dialogues will be at the bottom of the screen like in w1(again based on the videos i don't think they are going to change their position ,but i can still hope so) ,because if there will be full answers it's going to block our view.

I will have to play the game before I can honestly say if im upset or not!IF the paraphrase correctly reflects what im about to say, I have no issue with paraphrasing! My issue with ME1 and ME2 (more ME2) was you pick something you think sounds like your reply and the person goes off on its own tangent that doesnt even remotely reflect what the paraphase (or I ) wanted it to say!I must have reloaded so many conversations in ME2 because the paraphraseing was so poor, finding what you wanted to say was like finding a needle in a haystack! Now I wont lie, I prefer having my whole reply listed and dont understand why companies are refusing to do that? Are a few words saved so important?Anyways, ill say "with hesitation and worry" Im prepared to wait and see on this topic!I hope my faith in CD Projekt rewarded on this front!

hehe.. I think I, and anyone here who has played Fahrenheit(Indigo Prophecy) will feel right at home with the timed responses and QTE's :)) As for the ME styled thing remember Shepard said far more than the dialogue text(the text was the basic idea) so i doubt this will shorten the dialogue.Alpha Protocol also comes to mind :) heh, nice to have some experience under your belt every once in a while ;)

Dialogue is very important to me, and I want to know EXACTLY what my character will say before I choose a response. I don't want a summary or paraphrase, not even an accurate summary or paraphrase. And I especially don't want an inaccurate summary or paraphrase! Having time limits for some conversations might be good (depending on how it's implemented); it might generate a sense of real urgency. I wouldn't want them all to have time limits, but it sounds like CDPR isn't talking about having time limits for them all, just for a few especially crucial conversations.
