Somebody earlier in the thread mentioned that the odds of winning seem to change when you reload a game. I can confirm this. I set out to prove it playing Odo in one of my saved games: I played two hands (when the game would let me) with him then reloaded the save and played two more (same caveat). Sometimes I'd win, sometimes he'd clean the floor with me, and it all seems determined by a decision made by the AI when you load the dice poker game. It picks the winner at the start of the load and that's it: that person wins no matter what. Unfortunately, the AI usually picks the NPCs to win. I couldn't stand the moronic AI of the original version any more than I can stand this one. What's the problem with a fair game? Love fades. I want my gold back.

I've won loads of cash in act III. I have lost and did NOT do the load a save game thing. Haven't had a money problem regardless. However, Mikul was definitely the one time where I couldn't win. I went from 200 to no orens in no time with minimum bets.

Nevertheless, losing a hand of Full House (3X6 & 2X5) because the NPC "accidentally" rolls an ALL 6s is ridiculous.I mean, what are the chances of that happening?

I personally haven't experienced the dice games being rigged. In fact it doesnt seem much differant then in the original Witcher. The only differance I see is now the AI doesn't throw away pairs.Other then that I still win way more often then I lose. But I guess everybody has difficulty in some area of The Witcher.Personally I can't win the drinking contests to save my life.My opponent always seems to have watered down alchohol or something

Use watered down alcohol to beat 'em ... :p(No, really .. use weak alcohol and you should win assuming your base stats are high enough)

There is lots and lots and lots of free beer in the game -- by the end of Act II I had something like 30 glasses of beer, and that was after already completing several drinking contests. You should have no problem finding weak alcohol to use in drinking competitions!

How did this go from dice to drinking :D.Anyway is it possible that how one patched the game might effect the AI? Just a thought.... Are those seeing major cheating go straight from 1.0 to 1.4 or ??? Those who are certain they aren't cheating? MY EE arrives today :) might not get to play it till weekend though :(

After reading this thread I started keeping track of my gambling results. Keep in mind that I don't generally gamble that much so the sample is pitifully small. The results so far 15 games played, 8 won. Nothing surprising there. The longest losing streak was 4 games.

I play four people and got a kind of mixed feeling about it. Playing mikul I couldn't win for anything took more than ten games to finally beat him for the quest. The other three though seemed to be just improved AI with slight ebtter odds at getting good rolls. I won, but far less than I used to and not solely because they didn't screw up... The offset was a bit more than just that. All in all now I wouldn't play dice to make money, it is just too risky even if you do everything right (but then it is gambling so is that actually wrong?)Fighting still seems winable on normal difficulty at least. So I'll stick with it to make a little extra coin (betting twice what they offer ;) )

Mikul was tough for me as well. If some other people can confirm it, maybe there are certain NPCs who are very hard to beat. I myself struggled with the Hermit in Act IV as well...

I believe I beated Mikul in second game, so he did not seem though to me. I keep my bets so low as it´s possible and I usually keep winning without serious problems. It´s not a way to make some orens, but it helps to complete dice quest.

i have yet to encounter a NPC that i can beat on the first try and i just started Act II. it took 4 tries to beat the elven convict and it took me almost 15 times to beat Mikul. Mikul???? c'mon, the guy's an idiot but yet he gets insane rolls, it's frustrating to say the least.

I beat Mikul the first time I played him. I've only had trouble with Thaler and that dwarf in the hair bear inn so far. I enjoy the added challenge to the dice poker, but it's definitley more risky. If I was low on money I wouldn't try and make orens by playing dice poker anymore

I'll add that whenever I bet highest amount I never won. I been keeping it lowest and still had trouble with mikul. I once had 3 sixes and 2 fours he re-rolled all dice and got 3 sixes and 2 fives . That wouldn't of been unusual if it were unusual but I see a lot of full house rolls from nothing... four of a kind should be extremely rare but with my little playing I've not only seen 4 of a kind several times but five of a kind as well (often on full re-rolls or first rolls), for the NPC that is. I got four of a kind once...

It´s true that full house is very common among my opponents. Yesterday I played with some elf and he had full house twice in one game...no chance to win. It took me four games to beat him :D

There are some Chapter IV spoilers in this post.So I've encountered a character in Chapter IV who wishes to challenge me in the game of dice. Just like in a marital gamble, a kid's livlihood is at stake. No joke, I have played the guy EIGHT times in a row and have not yet won a SINGLE game. The load times to revert back to my save game and the forced cut scene prior to the dice game that I am unable to skip is making this a rather enduring process. This silly dice game CAN NOT be completely random. No way, I am not convinced. No one is this unlucky. Eight times in a row, you've got to be joking? I told the Lady of the Lake I believe I can decide my own fate, but apparently me and Alvin just weren't meant to be. I'd much rather formally defeat this "guy" in a game of dice, rather than slash him to ribbons. Is anyone else noticing they lose FAR MORE often than they win? I call hax.

What difficulty are you playing on? I wonder if that affects the dice.To me it seems like the dice game is rigged in favor of the player. The only game that was a challenge or seemed lopsided was the very last dice player I played.
