Did any other modders panic when they saw the video?

I'm thrilled that The Witcher 2 is coming out -- seriously thrilled. But seeing the announcement also gave me a rush of anxiety, along the lines of, "Oh, hell, TWO is coming out soon, which will make my new adventure completely redundant; I need to finish 'Medical Problems' FAST."I could have it finished enough to release fairly soon, but finished enough to satisfy me will take awhile yet. Anybody else have this reaction?I wish we had a better sense of when TW2 will be released -- if it's three months from now, I need to slap stuff together. If it's six months from now, I need to speed up. If it's a year from now, I can make things the way I want them.

I know what you mean. But on the other hand it means that The Witcher will be revisited and replayed by many players thus the audience for adventures and mods is getting bigger.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, I'd say the second game is still 2 years off.

The player in me wants TW2 tomorrow; the modder side wants them to hold off for a year or so. I guess that means that part of me gets to be happy no matter when they release it. :D

No worries, I think Flash is right and you don´t have to hurry anything. This announcement didn´t "scare" me away from learning a bit Djinni, although I prolly never will get anything going. And btw, from time to time I dig up and dust off NWN (yes, this old thing) and play mods. :-*cheers

Thanks. Although I got the evil feeling I better should stick to art and not scripts, which I only can make go kablooey anyway. (yeah, my scripting knowledge sucks... big. The w hores in Vizima can be envious.)Yeah... maybe not all gamers see it that way, but some oldies are goldies and deserve a replay from time to time.

I was very intimidated by scripting when I first started -- I'm a psychologist, for heaven's sake! -- but it turns out to be pretty straightforward. If you open the m1 module in Djinni, you can see all the scripts the REDs used for The Price of Neutrality (and HOW I wish they would share with us the ones from the main game!!). When I first started writing scripts, I slavishly copied the ones the REDs used and was very nervous about changing anything.Eventually, gradually, I started adding a line here and dropping a line there and rearranging things to suit myself better.Nowadays, I paw through the Djinni Function Reference in the Djinni Wiki, to see what cool things are possible. I'm not any sort of fabulous scripter -- I wouldn't want to give the wrong impression! -- but I can usually get what I want done, though there may be some trial-and-error involved for new stuff. So you can do this, I know you can!

I played MIght & Magic 6 during the summer of 2007, for the third time, just because I like it. So I hear you!

Oh, yes, it´s not all bad. I got a map working, hey ho! After hours fumbling, finally. And a few other things. Some just won´t shoot. :wall:Let´s see if the reference guide can do me any good, I hopelessly tried to get a "follow" script going. (Yeah, artist... my bad)Hmm... but I still got that map working... ;D

Maps stumped the earliest modders for weeks, until CDPR finally mentioned the existence of wp_special_near and wp_special_far. Getting a map working is something to be proud of, even now.

I haven't needed a follow script yet, though I will before the end of the game. Hexenmeister Raven has one in "Evil Decision" that makes a cow follow Geralt, and hers works perfectly. Of course, people are less prone to slavish following than cows, so I don't know how it works with them. :D Still, if I were you, I'd take a look at Raven's script. She's even been very helpful and named the file cow_follow, so it's easy to find.

I didn't even know about the video leak until reading this topic... was a busy weekend for me :)Anyway... WOW, the new game looks really great graphically even at such an early stage of development. I also really like the minimal HUD in TW2, so my next mod for TW1 will be a "Improved Immersion" mod that will remove as much of the HUD as possible, especially the things that you can know by looking at the screen... like removing the fighting style icons so you are forced to look at how Geralt is holding his sword to know which style you are using, etc.I've already begun work on it, and I've even been able to remove the enemy health circles on the ground, so when combined with the "Visible Wounds" from Flash's mod you now have to rely on the wounds you can see on the enemy to tell how much health they may have left. This alone has really increased the immersion for me.

All the character does is getting friendly - WOW! But following Geralt... nope. Maybe still suspicious, he could drag her into the bushes and do the humpty dumpty. I´ll just check some more what´s foul with it. ;D

Dear Corylea, To tell the truth i really doubt that TW 2 will be realese soon enough before you finished your work on "medical problems". So, easy girl :D and keep it going! I'm sure your modding will rock!!!!! (anuway, can't wait to see both your modding and TW 2 :p. I went crazy when TW2 was announced............)

Publishers of AAA games use to begin promotional campaign at least for 6 months before release. Often this campaign is started for an year before. Especially when game is sequel. The Witcher 2 even hasn't publisher yet. You've muuuuuuuuch time, Cory

just go through the vault, NWN2 didn't Kill NWN1... :beer:and if Witcher 2 catch new player, you can expect them to play Witcher 1...My only problem with this video is the lack of communication about any successor to d'jinni...
