Did Anybody Else Find the Medallion (z) Use Annoying?

In The Witcher 1 (and DAO and many other RPGs) you can hold a certain key (eg SHIFT) to show the name of all objects you can interact with (sometimes including enemies, which is useful as you can often see the remaining HP of each enemy). In The Witcher 1, there was also an option (which I used) to make this permanent so the object names were always shown.

In The Witcher 2, I found having to continually use the medallion for this same effect very annoying. It was like moving for a few seconds, pressing the medallion, spinning the camera and looting, then repeat.

Found it a bit annoying and counter-intuitive at first, but as the game went on it seemed to "fit" more and more and become less of a problem. I mean, if you could highlight things by hitting a key, then you could run through the forests of Flotsam being able to avoid all of the traps. Both systems end up working pretty well for their respective games, in my opinion.

Well put. : )

It took some time for me to get used to the new system, but I ended up liking it in the end. It doesn't become an issue for me to find lootable containers (I don't always need the medallion for that, anyway), and it does help the atmosphere to not be able to highlight everything on the screen just by holding a button.

It has a cooldown, you know.

the real crime is corpses disappearing

I actually want Geralt to have animation when he's carving up monsters.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bgKJ-jIm34&feature=player_detailpage#t=9s

After playing a few hours TW2 I was not happy with the medallion implementation but I quickly got used to it and now I don't even find it bothersome as I did in the beginning.

It's also more immersive to actually have to use the medallion for something instead of having floating text all over the screen. And let me remind you that the Detect creature/detect magic place options of the medallion in TW1 were absolutely useless. At least in TW2 it does something useful.

It's really annoying! TW1 system was much better. I like this feature of RPG games, and I don't know why CDPR refused to use this system. Now, is difficult to find interactive objects, especially herbs and other things. I hate this medallion system and I think it's the game's minus

My having to adjust to the keyboard changes was my biggest issue, but after that well they grew to fit and have become second natured for me.

So I guess I don't find those minor changes an issue.

*kudos to both 227 and Kindo*

I was overusing alt key in the Witcher 1. I like that "z" key medalion usage is stoping me from doing that.

Seriously? You didn't notice? Well in anycase, you didn't really expect to spam activate a magic medallion did you? I think the cooldown keeps things balanced.

Well, better or worse is all subjective. I also like highlighting in RPG's, but found this system to be a lot more immersive as the "highlighting" is part of the game world itself, making it "believable".

Exactly what I think. Running around with perma-alt was annoying sometimes.

I prefer the medallion in TW2 for reasons stated by others. I thought it was more immersive, and something Witchers would do.

Besides, you wouldn't be able to play hide and seek with Malena with the TW1 system.

Did you look at option menu in TW1?
As Weasel8778 said, there was an option to show the interactive objects always. And no need to press alt button.

Misunderstanding. I was annoyed by the floating names. I actually didn't want to see that, but found myself pressing this damn key over and over again. :D So actually I was annoyed...by me. Good that CDPR fixed...me...in TW2.

I prefer the TW2 medallion, it's more immersive.

As for TW1, I didn't even know it had a medallion option to show names, I just went into options and toggled them on. The only real time I paid attention to the TW1 medallion was when Mr. Raymond #2 came in.

The medallion needs time to recharge. That's why you can't use it again, right after pressing "Z" button.

It was annoying at first and I wished for TW1 system, but later I thought that its much more immersive not to see names (and of course seeing traps would be too easy). On my later playthroughs I didnt use the Medallion very much at all, as I could recognize what was lootable and what not. So I like both equally, they both do they work.

Yeah, I almost panicked at first. "How am I supposed to find containers and such now? Wah! This is sooo hard!" But then I got used to the new designed, managed to kind of figure out what containers are lootable just by looking at them, and the herbs and other natural ingredients have some subtle sparkles above them to help out, as well. Then you just pop the medallion when you have a lot of ground to investigate, and need some extra help. I'm very happy with how this new system turned out. : )

Same here. Excuse me for the comparison, but it's like people abusing detective mode in Batman: Arkham Asylum. It gives you an advantage, but somewhat ruins the game experience.

Well it wasn't really the medallion, just part of the Aurora engine that lets you highlight usable objects by pressing a key. Bioware games have had that since Infinity, I think starting with Baldur's Gate II. In those games it's actually very useful, because the perspective is fixed (you can't zoom in) and there are many small objects to interact with (such as picking up a ring on the ground).
