with as many pockets, swords, crossbow, bombs, potions, and other knick-knacks that he is fond of stuffing in the back of his trousers (just watch where his hand goes any time someone hands him something) I gotta imagine it's not overly comfortable for Geralt to sit down very often.
Actually if you sit on the bow it's just that, sitting, you steer it from the stern (nautical terminology).
yes he can sit back and steer the boat,
and he can sit as a passenger on front
(i think that is only places where game allow you to do that)
